Welcome to the first segment of Yarn Discovery – ELK Studio Style. I see so many yarns out there, and I’m familiar with many of them but know there are others that I’ve not used before. I thought it would be fun to introduce a different yarn and talk about the texture, type, weight and all the other yummy details. Sometimes I may present to you yarn that I’ve actually used myself but thought it would be fun if YOU (the crocheter) helped with this new addition to ELK Studio. I certainly don’t want to talk about a yarn that no one has used, so each yarn will be reviewed by an avid crocheter. Keep in mind, your style and taste may not be that of another person, but that’s what makes the world go around. I hope you will enjoy Yarn Discovery!

As many of you know, I have a small charity called ELK Studio – From the Heart and each month a group of women come together to give hats or other items to various organizations. I found the perfect first Yarn Discovery this month during the June Event. I’m the organizer this month so everyone sent their packages to me. Each item always comes in a zip lock bag to keep it safe until it reaches the recipient. Well, I opened Brooke’s package to find the most beautiful hat. The yarn felt so soft and each stitch was perfectly made. I had to know more and asked Brooke if she would like to tell us about the yarn.
Brooke’s Yarn Review
“I came across this and fell in love with the colors. The names caught my attention as well. Who wouldn’t want to buy Tomato/Anthracite, and Strawberry/Natural? I decided to order 2 skeins of each and was hooked (pun intended)!!! The yarn is so light, soft, smooth and silky to the touch. It makes for a great summer hat as it feels like you are wearing nothing. I think it would also work great for a summer slouch as well as a shawl or scarf as it has great drape. The package states it’s a DK weight, but I would say it’s more of a fingering weighted yarn. I highly recommend it.”
Here are some of the yarn details:
- Fiber Content – 50% Cotton, 50% Rayon
- Weight/Yardage – 50g/109 yds.
- Care instructions – Handwash, lay flat to dry
Brooke sent this hat to me for our June charity event. It’s actually one of my free patterns called Southern Comfort! If you’d like to see more of her work you can follow her blog or Facebook page. Thank you so much for introducing us to this beautiful yarn Brooke. It’s definitely one that I’d like to try.
Have a great day. Be blessed!
