Mountain Mist is a great hat with lots of texture!! I really love how the fpdc stitches give such a thickness to the hat, and I’m pretty sure it will keep you warm in the upcoming winter months. I’ll probably have to make the hubby one with some “manly” colors! I’m also thinking of a few other projects I’ll make using this stitch too!!

Pattern Instructions
Supplies:
1. Red Heart Soft or any worsted weight yarn. Specifications for the Red Heart Soft: 5 oz/141 grams 256 yds. Approximately 200-220 yards.
2. Crochet Hook Size – I/ 5.50
3. Tapestry needle for weaving in the ends.
Gauge:
12 dc stitches and 6 Rows = approximately 4″
Abbreviations:
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet
hdc – half double crochet
sc2tog – single crochet 2 together – Here’s a great tutorial from Moogly explaining the stitch.
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
V-Stitch – 2 dc in same st.
Note: Ch 1 and sl st does not count as a stitch in this pattern!
Color A – Brown
Color B- Seafoam
Color A
Ch 60, join by sl st to first ch (Be careful not to twist your chain!)
Round 1: Ch 1 and hdc in first ch, hdc in next ch and each ch around, join by sl st to first hdc. (60 st)
Round 2: ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout the pattern), dc in next st and around, join by sl st to first dc. (60 st)
Color B
Round 3: ch 1 and sc in first st, sc in next st and around, join by sl st to first sc. (60 st)
Color A
Round 4: ch 3 and dc in same st, skip next st, *V-Stitch in next st, skip next st*, repeat from *to*, join by sl st to top of 3rd ch, (60 st)
Color B
Round 5: sl st in V-Stitch, ch 1, *fpdc around post of dc, sl st in V st, ch 1, fpdc around post of next dc*, repeat from *to*, join by sl st to top of first fpdc. (60 st) (Remember the sl st and ch 1 does not count as a stitch).
Round 6: ch 1 and sc in first fpdc, sc in next fpdc and each fpdc around, join by sl st to first sc. (60 st)
Round 7-21: Repeat Rounds 4-6
Color A
Round 22: ch 1 and sc in first st, sc in next 2 st, sc2tog, *sc in next 3 st, sc2tog, repeat from *to*, join by sl st to first sc. (48 st)
Round 23: ch 1 and sc in first st, sc in next st, sc2tog, *sc in next 2 st, sc2tog, repeat from *to*, join by sl st to first sc. (36 st)
Round 24: ch 1 and sc in first st, sc in next st and around, join by sl st to first sc. (36 st)
Leaving a long tail. Thread your tapestry needle and weave under every other stitch. Pull tight to close the hole. Weave in the ends. Fasten off.
