I love the different ways you can make a poncho. I’d never made one using 2 rectangles sewn together, so I decided to give it a try to design the Moongaze Poncho. So, if you haven’t either, it okay because you’ll be fine with this pattern.
I chose an easy stitch pattern that gives you some texture, added warmth and easy to remember. You’ll find it easy to memorize and can just keep up with the measurements to get your desired look.

Supplies:
- Premier Everyday Heathers, Worsted Weight #4, 180 yds/113g, 100% acrylic, colorway: Oat Heather
- Hook – I/5.50mm
- Tapestry Needle for weaving in the ends
Abbreviations:
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
rem – remaining
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
sp(es) – space(es)
st(s) – stitch(es)
Gauge: 14 sc/dc sts and 14 rows = 4”
Pattern Notes:
- Ch 1 at beginning of pattern does not count as first st unless otherwise stated.
- Ch 3 at beginning of pattern counts as double crochet unless otherwise stated.
- You can use the alternative to the ch 3 stitch at the beginning of the pattern. I recommend at least watching the video and trying it. It’s a game changer for a nice, clean edge.

Instructions:
Panel (Make 2)
Using the chart above, ch the appropriate number of chs and proceed with the following instructions:
Row 1: Sc in 4th ch from hook (first 3 chs count as first dc), *dc in next ch, sc in next ch, repeat from * across, turn. (You will have 2 less stitches than your initial ch count)
Row 2: Ch 3 (See Pattern Notes), sc in next st, *dc in next st, sc in next st, repeat from * across, turn. (Remember the last sc should be placed in the top of the ch 3.)
Repeat Row 2 until you’ve reached the desired measurement as listed in the chart. Fasten off. Weave in the ends.

Finishing:
Using diagram as a guide for placement and right sides facing, sew the panels together.
Edgings:
Neck: Join by sl st in the back of poncho, ch 1, sc in first sp, sc evenly around. Fasten off. Weave in the ends.
Bottom:
Round 1: Join by sl st to first st to left of corner st, ch 1, sc in first st or sp, sc evenly around until corner st, 3 sc in corner st, (place st marker in 2nd st) sc in next st or sp evenly around until last corner, 3 sc in corner st (place stitch marker in 2nd st), join by sl st to first st.
Round 2: Ch 3 (See Pattern Notes), dc in next st, dc in each rem st until the corner st, 5 dc in corner st (place st marker in 3rd st), dc in next st and each rem st around until the next corner st, 5 dc in corner st, (place st marker in 3rd st), join by sl st to first st, dc in each rem st, join by sl st to first st.
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next st and each rem st until corner st, 3 sc in corner st, sc in next st until last corner, 3 sc in corner st (place stitch marker in 2nd st), sc in each rem st, join by sl st to first st. Fasten off. Weave in the ends.
