Seasonal Bliss Title and Tester Photos

Did you catch the title? What do you think of Seasonal Bliss as the name for all the different styles coming out for the pattern? I’ve struggled with the name and had a few good suggestions but not one that just said, “YES!” I was sitting at the table with my husband this morning and asked him what he thought. He sat there for a minute and said, “It should have the word seasonal in it because of the different styles.” Brilliant! The next thing he said was, “Bliss!” I loved it because there’s at least 6 different patterns within this style and to me it fit perfectly.

He is really good when it comes to making up names. He bought a wood business last year and his tag line is “I Bust It, You Burn It”. I laughed when I saw it but it’s like one of those jingles you hear on television and it gets stuck in your head! So a big thanks to Emory for helping me! I love you!

Now, on to some other fun. I knew I was going to need more help with this particular pattern because of the different versions and recruited 3 wonderful women to help me. They’ve hung out around ELK Studio for a while now and have become like my neighbors. You see them everyday and I’m always talking to them on Facebook. It’s really fun to have a core group of folks to give you encouragement and support.

Becky is a wonderful and talented woman who is diverse in crochet projects. You should jump over to Grammy’s Creations to check out her purses and the new Kadi project she’s been working on that now released.

Ashley is also another great crocheter with a passion for all of her projects. It only takes a few minutes of looking at her Facebook page, Craftin Ashlen, to see all of her talent!

My last tester is Elizabeth and she has the cutest daughter who agreed to pose for the pictures. I love her little smile because it reminds me of my daughter when she was little. Elizabeth can also work up great projects, so you should check out her page, Crocheted Cuties by Elizabeth. She was actually featured this past week on “Saturday Night Share”.

Elizabeth and her daughter – Elizabeth is wearing size large and her daughter has on the small which fits 19″ to 21″.
Ashley’s son is wearing the medium which fits approximately 22″.

Another Signature Hat from ELK Studio with an Added Bonus!

I’ve loved making my Southern line of hats and just couldn’t see myself “putting” the creativity away because summer is practically over and everyone is now ready for fall. Anyone can see from perusing through the pages of Facebook and blogs that people are gearing up for the colder months and excitement is in the air. Well, so am I but…..my summer hats, I love making them.

So, what is a crocheter to do when the climate and custom orders begin to change? I do what we, (crocheters) do best and become creative. I’ll satisfy my inner need to make my beautiful sun hats while meeting the current seasonal demands. How?

My next release will have several multiple patterns to choose from and I’ve listed them below:

The classic ELK Studio style summer hat along with a short brim version. I’ve had a few people ask me if I designed hats without requiring the use of millinery wire. I listened and it’s included with this pattern. (The flower in the short brim picture is not part of the pattern but is a modified version of Teresa Richardson’s pattern. Here is a link I provided in an earlier post.
A winter version to include small, medium and large instructions.
A headband version with an added bonus. Everyone has loved the Hounds Tooth hat, scarf and tote, so I’ve included a free Hounds Tooth headband pattern!
A scarf and boot cuff pattern.

So many great accessories to add to your bucket list! There is enough there to keep you busy for at least 2 days right? I know how fast some of you crochet…….

Are you ready to see some of the accessories? The boot cuffs and scarf are still a work in progress but here is everything else!

The first pattern released from this series will be the Winter Version style and should be ready within the next few days!

The Ultimate Crochet Gift

I’ve worked in the medical field for over 22 years now and in the 90’s I worked with Natalie in the Cardiopulmonary department. I changed jobs and we both kept on going with life and lost touch with one another. Well, almost a year ago I started working at a local hospital and was pleasantly surprised to see Natalie working at the same hospital.

Since then we’ve made conversations about life, kids and crochet. She dabbles in it from time to time but mainly is a quilter (I won’t hold it against her). The other day I came in and had a note saying that she needed to talk to me, so I called her. She came around the corner with a brown grocery sack (you mean they still have those things?) and said, “I have something for you that I think you are going to love.”

Natalie begins to tell me that she was among her quilting group (at a local business) and this woman walks in with a bag. She said that her mother had recently died and wanted to know if anyone would be interested in taking her crochet books. The owner of the business told the woman no one there crocheted. Natalie then spoke up and told the woman, “I don’t really crochet much but know someone who does and would love those books.” The woman wanted to make sure they would be taken care of and cherished.

I had the biggest grin on my face because I KNEW there were treasures in that bag. I began pulling them out one by one and fell in love. Obviously the owner of the books loved to crochet with thread because there were many books of doilies. These magazines/books are in incredibly great shape for some of them to be as old as they are.

Here is a picture of the Handkerchief Edging by Clark’s O.N.T and J&P Coat’s (now known as Coats and Clark) published in 1949 and cost 10 cents.

I’ve spent a little time looking through these books and have chuckled at the hair styles and what we used to wear. What were we thinking? One thing I have noticed is that the magazines and patterns today are so much easier to read. I truly give the crocheters back in the day credit for being able to decipher the instructions. I’ve had to read and reread some of the instructions to understand the pattern. There really is some great inspiration among those pages with the different types of stitches, and I’m excited to see what I can come up with but hopefully in today’s fashion.

There are so many magazines and books in this spread and I tell you, I’m truly honored to receive such a gift. I can sense by the looks of these books this woman cared about her things, and I bet she made some beautiful crochet from them. I hope she’s looking down on me and thinking she’s glad I’m the one that got them.

I wanted to share a little happiness in my world!
