As a way to combat stress, Sandra crochets for health, to stay happy and stress-free.
Who Taught You to Crochet?
I taught myself approximately when I was 15 or 16. My grandmother tried to teach me but she was very her way or no way and I just could not get it. I bought a couple of books (knitting and crochet) and sat in my room with a hook and yarn and taught myself. I also taught myself to knit, cross-stitch, bead and sew. I have also taught many others the art of crochet.
How Long Have You Been Crocheting?
Since I was 16 – 44 years ago off and on. I have done other crafts as well in between like knitting, cross stitch, beading and sewing but I have still crocheted. I generally make things for family and friends but recently have started doing orders up for people. My favourite items are stuffies.
Why is Crochet More than Just a Hobby to You?
It is more than a hobby as it helps with my stress. My dad passed away 3 years ago and my mom has been diagnosed with dementia so it has been hard. I have been crocheting items that make me happy and this helps with my stress. I usually give them away to people that I work with which also makes them happy and helps with their stress. My favourite item is a small octopus which I call a Stress Octo – people can squeeze (or throw them) to help with stress.
