It’s always exciting when I’m asked to write a review of a fun yarn! Yarnspirations is a wonderful company, and I’m really proud to bring this Caron Cake yarn review and a NEW FREE crochet design by me! Be sure to scroll and find all the links for the yarn….there’s one showing lots of different ways the yarn is used in designs by Yarnspirations!
Please Favorite or Queue in Ravelry!
As many of you already know, Yarnspirations released a new yarn called, Caron Cakes. The response to this wonderful and soft yarn was so amazing….you can now expect more Caron Cakes exclusively in Michael’s Store everywhere!
The Caron Cakes have a fun striping effect that will create completely different color groupings depending on the starting shade at the center or outer edge of your ball. It really does help in creating a uniquely beautiful striping that’s as easy as a “piece of cake”.
When I opened my box from Yarnspirations, I found 3 beautiful Caron Cakes in the Buttercream Colorway! I was so excited to get started. I hope you’ll like the pattern and find it elegant and beautiful!
Don’t forget to check out the Look Book from Michael’s too! You’ll love the inspiration in all the projects displayed!
Delightfully Southern Shawl
UPDATE: There is a stitch diagram for this pattern. Click HERE to take a look!
Supplies:
1. Caron Cakes, #4 Worsted Weight, 200 grams/383 yards, 80% acrylic, 20% wool, 2 Cakes/Colorway: Buttercream
2. Hook Size: H/5.0mm
3. Tapestry Needle
Gauge: 13 dc sts and 9 rows = 4″
Finished Measurement: 46” x 14″ (The pattern takes on a crescent shape)
Abbreviations:
bpdc – back post double crochet
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet
sc – single crochet
st – stitch
Notes:
- Ch 2 is not considered the first st in the row.
- Ch 1 is not considered the first st in the row.
- Ch 4 is considered the first dc and ch 1 in the row.
- Ch 5 is considered the first dc and ch 2 in the row.
- Add one sc stitch in Row 26, preferably in the middle of the row.
- The first Caron Cake was pulled from the center. When I started the second Caron Cake, it worked out better for me to start from the outer end and work that way than pulling from the center because the yarn “matched” up to that sequence better. You don’t necessarily have to do that because it may work out nicely for you to pull both cakes from the center. I just at least wanted to let you know that’s how mine worked out.
