I wanted to thank everyone for hanging out with me this year by wrapping it up with another free pattern. I’ve posted pictures of my friend Taylor and her daughter wearing matching hats on my ELK Studio Facebook page, and it’s been a big hit. Taylor and I (along with some other friends) took a trip this past April to a women’s convention in Boston. Taylor found a cute knitted hat but instead of buying it, she asked if I could make her one for this upcoming winter.
I really appreciate my friends having enough confidence in me to come up with my design and pattern without any restrictions. The only thing she wanted was a bow which wasn’t a problem. Here is a picture of my beautiful friend, Taylor.
As I always try to do, I worked this hat up using different yarns. I had never tried Bernat Satin and really enjoyed the softness and feel of the yarn. It wasn’t too thick and felt it would be a good fit for the hat……I was right. It had the perfect drape I was looking in a beret style hat, the shimmer of the yarn is beautiful, and it flowed nice and smoothly through my fingers. (Makes ya want to go buy some right now huh?)
I did try Caron Simply Soft and really liked it too, although it doesn’t have as much “stretch” to the yarn as I would like when working towards the end of the decrease rounds in the pattern. The hat still achieved a beautiful drape and it looked almost identical to the Bernat hat, but when Taylor tried on the Caron it fit a little more snug than the Bernat. (I used the same hook).
I had testers help me work up this hat with 3 different sizes with a small measuring 18″-20″, the medium measuring 21″-22″ and the large measures 23″-24″.
Here is another good friend, Wendy, who also is an awesome crocheter and was kind enough to test the pattern for me. Thanks Wendy!
I hope you enjoy the pattern and would love to see your finished project! You can share them on my ELK Studio Facebook page! Who knows…..it may get shown off to the world!
