Southern Diamonds CAL Week 5

UPDATE:  3/14/2017  There was an error in Round 31 that resulted in changing the pattern through Round 34.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Please note the Many of you requested that I give some additional rounds to the Southern Diamonds Poncho because you needed yours a little longer.  Well here ya go!  I hope you’ll enjoy this last part and get those projects done!

1.  Premier Cotton Fair Yarn, #2 Fine Weight Yarn, 52% Cotton, 48% Acrylic, 317 yards/100g, Colorway: Plum (5 Skeins)
2. Hook Size:  G/4.00
3. Tapestry Needle for Weaving in the ends.

ch – chain
dc – double crochet
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip st
sp(s) – space(s)
st(s) – stitch(es)

Gauge: 6 V-sts and 8 rows = 4”

Beginning V-st:  (ch 4, dc)
V Stitch (V-st): (dc, ch 1, dc) in indicated st or sp

Round 31:  Sl st in ch-1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, *3 dc in each ch-1 sp around**, until 7 st shell, skip next st, 2 dc in next ch-1 sp, 7 dc in corner ch-1 sp, skip next st, 2 dc in next ch-1 sp, repeat from *, ending last repeat at **, join by sl st to top of ch 3. (616 dc, 4 corner sts)

Round 32:  Sl st in next st, Beg V-st, *[skip next 2 sts, V-st in next st]** until last 3 sts before corner st, skip next st, 2 dc in next st, skip next st, 7 st shell in corner st, skip next st, 2 dc in next st, skip next st, repeat from *, ending last repeat at **, join by sl st to top of ch 3. (200 V-sts, 16 dc, 4 shells)

Round 33:  Sl st in ch-1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, *3 dc in each ch-1 sp around**, until last 2 stitches before 7 st shell, skip next st, 2 dc in next st, skip next st, 2 dc in next ch-1 sp, 7 dc in corner ch-1 sp, skip next st, 2 dc in ch-1 sp, skip next st, 2 dc in next st, repeat from *, ending last repeat at **, join by sl st to top of ch 3. (656 dc, 4 corner sts)

Round 34:  Sl st in next st, Beg V-st, *[skip next 2 sts, V-st in next st] ** until last 5 sts before corner st, skip next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, skip next 2 sts, 7 st shell in corner st, skip next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st,repeat from *, ending last repeat at **, join by sl st to top of ch 3. (208 V-sts, 16 dc, 4 corner 7 st shells)

Round 35: Ch 3, *dc in each dc and ch-1 sp around** until corner st, 5 dc in corner st, repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, join by sl st to top of ch 3. (680 dc, 4 corner st)

Round 36:  Sl st in next 3 sts, Beg Shell, *[skip next 4 sts, shell in next st]** until last 2 sts before corner st, skip next 2 sts, shell in corner st, skip next 2 sts, shell in next st, repeat from * around ending last repeat at **, skip last 4 sts, join by sl st to top of ch 3. (140 shells)

Round 37:  Sl st in next ch-1 sp and dc, ch 3, 4 dc in same sp, *[skip next (ch-1 sp, 2 dc, ch-1 sp), 5 dc in next st]**, until shell, skip next (ch-1 sp, 2 dc, ch-1 sp), 9 dc in corner st, repeat from * around, join by sl st to top of ch 3. (712 dc, 4 corner sts)

Round 38:  Sl st in next 2 sts, Beg Shell, *[skip next 4 sts, shell in next st]** until last 6 sts before corner st, skip next 3 sts, V-st in next st, skip next 2 sts, 7 st shell in corner st, skip next st 2 sts, v-st in next st, skip next 3 sts, shell in next st, repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, join by sl st to top of ch 3. (136 shells, 8 V-sts 4 corner 7 st shell)

Round 39:   Ch 3, *dc in each dc and ch-1 sp around** until corner st, 5 dc in corner st, repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, join by sl st to top of ch 3. (744 dc, 4 corner sts)

Round 40:   Ch 1, sc in first st, *sc in next st and each rem st** until corner st, 3 sc in corner st, repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **, join by sl st to first st. (752 sc)  Fasten Off.  Weave in the ends.

Top Edging Option:

For a finished look:  Join by sl st to the foundation round, ch 1, sc in first st and each remaining st around, join by sl st to first st.  Fasten Off.  Weave in the ends.
