Can you tell that I’m ready for a beach trip! I’ve made my beach bag and now a Rockin’ Summer Crochet beach towel! It’s a simple project that would make a beginner beam with pride once completed. The crochet part of the project is a repeat of one row and weaving the yarn through the mesh is easy peasy!
I went to JoAnn’s the other day and bought Bernat Handicrafter white, navy and nautical cotton yarn. I wanted something that would have red, white and blue and this yarn was perfect for the towel. It’s the first time I’ve used the Bernat cotton and was pleased with the outcome. Have you ever tried it?
Pattern Instructions:
Supplies:
1. Bernat Handicrafter Cotton Yarn, Medium #4 White/356 yds. Navy/356 yds. Nautical/560 yds. (1272 total yds.)
2. Crochet Hook Size – H/5.0
3. Tapestry needle for weaving in the ends.
Gauge: 16 stitches and 10 Rows = approximately 4 inches.
Abbreviations:
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
st – stitch
I’m going to give you the pattern and will list the color sequence below the pattern.
ch is multiples of 2 plus 4
ch 100.
Row 1: dc in 6th ch from hook (counts as dc and ch-1 sp), *ch 1, skip next ch, dc in next ch*, repeat from *to* across, turn (48-ch sp)
Row 2: ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch-1 sp here and throughout the pattern), dc in next st, *ch 1, dc in next st*, repeat from *to*, with last dc in top of 3rd ch. turn
Repeat row 2 until you have reach desired length.
I have a tutorial on my Houndstooth scarf pattern to show you show to change color if you need help.
Color Sequence:
Rows 1-8 – Navy
Rows 9-16 – White
Rows 17-28 – Nautical
Rows 29-36 – Navy
Rows 37-44 – White
Rows 45- 60 – Nautical
Rows 61 – 68 – White
Rows 69 – 76 – Navy
Rows 77 – 88 – Nautical
Rows 89 – 96 – White
Rows 97 – 104 – Navy
Weaving:
Thread your tapestry needle with 4 strands of yarn each measuring 2.5 yds each. *Weave up in the first hole of mesh and down in the next hole, repeating until you’ve reached the end leaving approximately 6″ on each end of the project for the fringe * Repeat this step across. Tie the strands over the foundation row and knot together. Trim the fringe to 3″.
Color Sequence for Weaving Strands:
7 rows – Navy
7 rows – White
20 rows – Nautical
7 rows – White
7 rows – Navy
I hope you enjoy this pattern and now that I’ve finished, oh the possibilities. How cute would this be in a baby blanket with pink, white, and mint green? Of course, you would decrease the number of rows, but it would be a gorgeous blanket!
Have a great day! Be blessed!
