Daisy uses crochet as a wonderful means of escape and therapy.
Who Taught You to Crochet?
I taught myself how to crochet. I had tried sporadically for over 30 years to learn how to crochet, with no success. I paid for lessons, friends tried to teach me but I was unteachable. Thanks to the internet and, YouTube, and rewind I learned how. Yeah me! I cannot tell you how many times I’ve had to rewind!
How Long Have You Been Crocheting?
I’ve been crocheting for a little over 10 years. I’ve always been a very active person, started work outside the home when I was 7. Got put on disability, had to have a couple major surgeries which really slowed me down, I do a little bit then have to sit down. Which is when I get my phone, hook, and yarn. It’s been frustrating but I’m not a quitter. I do most of the needle crafts but spend most of my time on crochet. I do not know how to knit.

Not Just for boys anymore! Dark brown newborn football hat with a soft pink bow.
Why is Crochet More than Just a Hobby to You?
Crocheting is a learning process, new stitches, new patterns. I use it as an escape therapy. The reason I’ve always stayed so busy is from the age of 3 I was abused in every way possible. I was raised in a Christian home, my dad was a preacher. I have 4 older brothers, and I’m the baby and only girl. Everyone always thought that I had it made, I thought, if you only knew. My dad is dead. I confronted my brothers a few years ago, they don’t acknowledge me. They are their father’s sons and one is a preacher. I tell people that I don’t have any family; Family doesn’t hurt each other. Crocheting keeps my mind occupied – my great escape – and causes the least amount of pain. I thank God every day for all my many blessings. He is my strength, my comforter, and my courage in speaking out about what happened to me. Have a God filled day and be kind to one another. I love all of you.
