Are you ready to make a Christmas Crochet Snowman? We’ve made it through Thanksgiving and now the focus turns to Christmas coming sooner than we think and time always seems to get away from us. I’m so proud that Premier decided to sponsor this unique event especially coming from ELK Studio. I really think the Kid’s Christmas Crochet Projects will create some everlasting memories and give those kiddos something to do while they are out for Christmas break this year.
Our first project is the ELK Studio Snowman, and you’ll love how easy and simple it will be to create your very own snowman with your unique yarn colors.
Thanks to Premier, they have offered a 10% discount using the coupon code KL009. This discount cannot be combined with other offers provided by Premier. Offer ends December 4, 2017 at 11:59 pm EST.

Snowman Instructions (You can watch the FB LIVE Video for a video tutorial and photo tutorial below.)
- Take the larger ball using a knife to cut a small part off the bottom so that it will stand.
- With a pen or marker, place a dot in the top center of the foam balls. You will also need to place a mark where you will insert the pipe cleaner for the nose and the arms.
- Use the wood dowel and insert into the center of each ball one at a time. (Depending on the size of your snowman, you may have to cut off some of the dowel but don’t worry about that now. You won’t want to cut it off even with the top of the snowman head. Leaving about 1/2″ to 3/4″ will help the hat stand up. Also, make around a 1″ hole where you will be placing the pipe cleaner for the nose. You will also need to make a 1-2″ hole in the side of the foam ball for the twigs.
- Take your glue and place a small amount around the bottom of the large ball. Continue to apply a small amount while wrapping the yarn around the ball working your way up. Once you get to the top, you’ll start applying the glue to the bottom of the smaller foam ball and wrapping the yarn. Continue the process until you get close to the top. Cut yourself a generous 7-10″ of yarn and continue applying the glue and wrapping the yarn until you reach the top. Cut off the remaining yarn.
- Apply a little glue between the large and small foam balls and apply pressure to secure them together.
- Allow your project to dry. (A few hours)
- For the eyes and buttons, you have a couple of choices. You can either buy buttons and eyes or make them with yarn. I chose to make my buttons and eyes with yarn. Using G Hook/4.0mm, *ch 3, join by sl st to first st. With a long tail, use your tapestry needle to work in and out of the yarn to create a small ball. You can use a very small amount of glue to make sure the yarn stays together. Repeat from 4 more times. Place them to the side.
- Top Black Hat:
- Round 1: Ch 4, join by sl st to first st, 6 sc in ring. (6 sc) Place stitch marker in first st.
- Round 2: 2 sc in blo of first st (Place st marker in first st), 2 sc in blo of next st and each st around. (12 sc)
- Round 3: *Sc in blo of first st, (Place st marker in first st) 2 sc in blo of next st, repeat from * around. (24 sc)
- Round 4: sc in blo of first st, (Place st marker in first st), sc in blo of next st and each rem st around.
- Rounds 5-7: Repeat Round 4
- Round 8: *2 sc in first st, sc in next st, repeat from * around. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
- Pink Hat;
- Round 1: Ch 4, join by sl st to first st, 6 sc in ring. (6 sc) Place stitch marker in first st.
- Round 2: 2 sc in first st (Place st marker in first st), 2 sc in next st and each st around. (12 sc)
- Round 3: *Sc in first st, (Place st marker in first st) 2 sc in next st, repeat from * around. (24 sc)
- Round 4: sc in first st, (Place st marker in first st), sc in next st and each rem st around.
- Rounds 5-7: Repeat Round 4
- Round 8: *2 sc in first st, sc in next st, repeat from * around. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
- Really Red Scarf:
- Row 1: Ch 46, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch and each rem ch across. (45 sc). Fasten off and weave in the ends.
- Make sure the glue has dried before trying to place the hat, eyes and buttons on the snowman. I suggest using small pins to make sure the placement of your project first because you may want to move things around. You can either leave the pins in place to hold the buttons or glue your eyes and buttons to the snowman.
- Wrap the scarf around the snowman using pins then glue in place if you want.
- Insert twigs into the holes you made for the arms.
- Insert the pipe cleaner craft into the hold you made for the nose.
- Place the hat on the head. You can also pin or glue your hat into place.
- Cut a small piece of black yarn (2-3″) for the mouth and glue or pin in it place.
Now you have your very own snowman and maybe even created some fun memories along the way!
