This isn’t the boot cuff that I have had real issues with but, I did want to share this one too. I hope you enjoy! Please let me know if there are any issues or problems! Constructive criticism is always welcomed.
UPDATE: 02/13/13
I am entering this pattern on “Hooking on Hump Day”. Here is the link:
Supplies:
- I used I Love This Yarn medium (4) worsted weight. The color I used was ivory.
- Crochet Hook Size – H
- Tapestry needle for weaving in the ends.
Abbreviations:
ch – chain
st – stitches
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
Gauge: 9 stitches and 3 Rows = approximately 2 inches.
Top Portion of Boot Cuff (Updated 02-16-13) I added row 4.
Row 1: Ch 11 turn
Row 2: Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 3 turn. (10 st) (ch3 counts as first dc here and throughout)
Row 3: skip 2nd sc ,dc in next st, dc in skipped sc, *skip next sc, dc in next sc, dc in skipped sc* across to last sc and dc in last sc. Ch 1 turn (10 st)
Row 4: sc in first st and across. ch 3 turn (10 st)
Repeat row 3 and 4 until the desired measurement ending with row 3 and fasten off leaving a long tail.
Join ends together using the long tail and take the side just fastened off using the tapestry needle to sew the front loop only of the stitch and the bottom loop of each sc on the first row. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Bottom Portion of Boot Cuff
Row 1: Join to cuff by ch 1 and sc evenly around, sl st into first sc (not the ch 1). (Hint) You will later be decreasing stitches so be sure that your stitches will divide by 4 evenly then add two more sc. (Example: Sc 40 stitches plus 2=42 stitches around.) 42 will actually be a good number to use on the average size cuff.
Row 2: ch 2, dc into next sc and around, Sl st in top of ch 2 st.
Row 3: ch 1 and sc in same sp, sc in next dc and around, sl st in first sc.
Row 4: ch 2, dc into next sc and around, Sl st in top of ch 2 st.
Row 5: ch 1 and sc in same sp, sc in next dc and around, sl st in first sc.
Row 6: ch 2, dc into next sc and around, Sl st in top of ch 2 st.
Row 7: ch 1 and sc in same space, sc in next 3 stitches, *skip next sc, sc in next 4 st*, repeat from * to * across, sl st in first sc.
Row 8: ch 2 and hdc in sc and around, sl stitch in top of ch 2 st.
Row 9: ch 1 and sc in same sp, sc in next hdc and around, sl stitch in first sc. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Add buttons if desired.

This pattern makes no sense at all. Chain 11 to start? Can’t be right
Kathy Lashley says
Hi Cathy!
It is right. What you’ll do is crochet the pattern until you’ve done enough rows to fit your desired measurement. It is after that point where you’ll start working in the round. I hope that helps and makes more sense.

Hi Kathy, I just wanted to ask you if Im suppose to make 2 of the top and bottom portion of this boot cuff and sew them together because its awful small. It does not state this in the pattern if so?
Kathy Lashley says
When you start your first part of the project, crochet that portion until you reach your desired width (this is the part that goes around the calf). Once you’ve done this…you will start the second half of the boot cuff. Hope this helps.

what would be the “desired” measurement? I am making these for someone and I have no idea how long to make this? Any ideas?
ELK Studio - Handcrafted Crochet Designs says
Amanda,
Calf measurement can be tricky. The size of the person can have a lot to do with the size of the cuff. Unfortunately, it’s not like making hats where there are general sizes. I know when I make “average” cuffs, they are around 15-16″ in length before sewing them together. I hope this helps.

ok thank you! Good to know. I am a big girl 🙂 hahaha so I don’t want to make them for my size. but the gal I am making them for is a skinny butt 🙂 hahaha

Row 6 says dbl crochet in the next dbl crochet, but row 5 is sc. So is this a typo?
ELK Studio - Handcrafted Crochet Designs says
Yes. I’m sorry. I’ll correct it.

Thank you

Do you have any yardage approximations for this item? I have some leftover yarn that I’d like to use but not sure if I have enough….
ELK Studio - Handcrafted Crochet Designs says
I think I used around 100-150 yards of yarn for my cuffs.
kathy says
are you supposed to end up with 42 total stitches on row 6 I’m on row 7 and ending up with 2 left over after the decreases? thanks
ELK Studio - Handcrafted Crochet Designs says
I’ve looked back over the pattern and it has been almost a year since I’ve made one of these boot cuffs. To be exact, I would probably need to work up a pair but after doing the math, it would leave you with 2 stitches too many. I’m sorry for the confusion and will make an adjustment once I’ve completed the pattern again if I need too. For now, it would seem that 40 stitches would be the more appropriate number.

kathy says
thanks I tried 40 stitches and that seemed to work out–appreciate your help so quickly
