In this week’s Crochet Stories, let’s learn more about why Wanda crochets!
Who Taught You to Crochet?
My second Foster Mom taught me when I was in 7th grade. She didn’t want me walking up and down the streets all summer when we got out for summer break.
How Long Have You Been Crocheting?
I’ve been crocheting for over forty years. It started out as something to do for the summer every year. As I got older life happened. I had four children, got married, went to school full time and had a full-time job. The very first complete job I made a blanket for my only daughter, then I got busy with life so I put my craft to the side for a while. My son was killed in 2011 so as I was grieving for him I pucked my yarn and needle up and started back crocheting. It helped me out tremendously. Which is where I got the name “From Jesse’s Heart”. As I post my items on facebook my oldest brother, that was in a different foster home, told me you really do some nice work. Our mom crocheted too. I was a ward of the state my mom died when I was a baby so I never knew her. So I believe this craft is something I was born to do. I really enjoy crocheting all the time.
Why is Crochet More than Just a Hobby to You?
It’s a part of who I am. I feel so good every time I complete an item an see the look on the person’s face who asked me to make it for them. It also kept me from losing my mind when I lost my youngest to gun violence. It helped me to find a way to cope with his death and it makes me feel closer to my mom whom I’ve never met.
