In this week’s Crochet Stories, learn why Mary crochets and why it’s more than just a hobby for her.
Who Taught You to Crochet?
My Aunt Erma. She was a crafter long before that word was created. She sewed, quilted, tatted, crocheted, did woodworking, made resin items(like grapes and fruits), she also cooked and gardened and took care of my grandmother who had dementia. She started me out big with a ripple Afghan (not a full blanket or washcloth) I worked on when I visited her and I don’t remember how long it took but she helped me make it perfect and reminded me that it is all practice if something had to be remade over and over. She was always patient. She also taught me to sew and cook.
How Long Have You Been Crocheting?
About 55 years off and on.with working, raising kids and going to school being the main reasons for absences
Why is Crochet More than Just a Hobby to You?
Crochet helps me have my own time. It allows me to be creative. I have sold some items. I get lots of compliments on my work when I wear it. It supplements my wardrobe.
