Supplies:
- Red Heart Soft, #4, 141 g/256 yards, Charcoal, Wine and White approximately 120-150 yards.
- Hook – H/5.0 mm
- Tapestry Needle for weaving in the ends
Abbreviations:
beg – beginning
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
psc – single crochet picot
rem – remaining
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
st(s) – stitch(es)
YO – yarn over
Gauge: 12 dc sts and 8 rows = 4”
Finished Size: Hat to fit head circumferences of (20″-22”)
Pattern Notes:
- Ch 1 at beginning of pattern does not count as first st unless otherwise stated.
- Ch 2 at beginning of pattern does not count as first double crochet unless otherwise stated.
- Work is not turned, the right side is always facing.
Special Stitches:
Single Crochet Picot (Psc) – insert hook into st, YO, pull up a loop, [YO and pull through 1 loop] 3 times, YO and pull through both loops, pull picot to front of work. Click HERE for a video tutorial!
Reverse Stitch (also called Crab Stitch): Reverse sc is made by working a ch 1, working from left to right (right to left for left-handed people), sk first st, insert hook from front to back in next st to the right (left), yo, pull loop through st, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook.
Round 1: Using Charocal , ch 4, join by sl st to first ch to form ring. Ch 2 (See Pattern Notes), 12 dc in ring.
Round 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in first st, 2 dc in in next st and each rem st around, join by sl st in first dc (24 st)
Round 3: Ch 2, dc in first st, 2 dc in next st, *dc in next st, 2 dc in next st , repeat from *, join by sl st to first dc (36 st)
Round 4: Ch 2, dc in first st, dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, *dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st*, repeat from *, join by sl st to first dc (48 st)
Round 5: Ch 2, dc in first st, dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, *dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st*, repeat from *, join by sl st to first dc (60 st) Flat Circle Measures 5 ½ “Fits 20-21” Skip Round 6 and move directly to Round 7 if you want this size hat.
Round 6: Ch 2, dc in first st, dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st, *dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st*, repeat from *, join by sl st to first dc (72 st) Flat Circle Measures 6 ½ “Fits 22”
Round 7: Ch 2, dc in first st, dc in next st and each rem st around, join by sl st to first dc (72 st)
Round 8: Using Wine, ch 1, (See Pattern Notes), sc in first st, Psc (See Special Stitches) in next st, *sc in next 2 sts, sc picot in next st, repeat from * until last st, sc in last st, join by sl st to first sc. (72 sts)
Round 9: Using White, ch 1, sc in first st, ch 1, skip next st, *sc in next 2 sts, ch 1, skip next st, repeat from * until last st, sc in last st, join by sl st to first sc. (72 sts)
Round 10: Using Charcoal, ch 2, dc in first st, dc in next ch-1 sp, *dc in next 2 sts, dc in next ch-1 sp, repeat from * until last st, dc in last st, join by sl st to first dc. (72 sts)
Repeat Rounds 8-10 until you have reached your desired length. (I repeated the 4 times).
Round 11: Using Wine, Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next st and each rem st around, join by sl st to first st. (72 sts)
Round 12: Repeat Round 11, Fasten Off and weave in the ends.
Edging
Using White, reverse st (See Special Stitches) in next st and each rem st around, join by sl st to first reverse st. Fasten off and weave in the ends. (72 sts)
