Some of these projects can be whipped up in under an hour, and some may take longer. The smaller, quicker one skein projects are perfect for last minute gifts.

Southern Diamonds Shawl Tutorial Part 2

We are now into Part 2 of the Southern Diamonds Shawl Tutorial!  I know it’s taken some time to get out, but if you watched my Live FB chat on Friday, I mentioned I was having some technically difficulties.  I live on a dirt road way out in the country of Alabama, so I use satellite internet and it doesn’t always want to cooperate.  I was finally able to get it loaded yesterday!  Part 2 is Rows 4-7 and Part 3 is in the editing process now!  I hope you enjoy!

Have You Tried the Yarnit?

As a woman trying to make it in the “business world”, anytime I can help someone else and believe in the product…..I will.  Kate from Yarnit emailed me last week about her latest business endeavor and asked me if I would help.  I had seen the Yarnit last year at the CGOA Conference, so I was familiar with the product. She has a brilliant idea of expanding her business with a new Yarnit called “Big Sully” and needs our help.  Keep reading for more details!

The Yarnit - A Product Review by ELK Studio

Kate sent me a Yarnit to use and let me tell you….it’s so much fun and a great tool to add to my crochet toolbox!  I went to a local Applebee’s the other day for lunch by myself and decided to take my Yarnit inside with me and work on a “new secret project”.  The waitress was also a crocheter and loved it!  I gave her my business card (always have one with you right) and told her that I would be writing a blog post about it soon and it would have all the wonderful information.

As I was waiting for my lunch to arrive, two women and a gentleman sat down at the table across from me.  You guess it…..One of the women wanted to know where to get one! She had been crocheting for over 30 years like me and thought it would make a great traveling companion.  When I showed her the bottom came off and was a place for your needle, stitch markers and small scissors, she did a small “yelp”.  I know the other people at the table next to her thought we were both crazy.  Who cares!  Crocheters love their gadgets! The man took a card and told her he would buy her one for her birthday!  How fantastic!

You should really start hinting around to your family and friends how wonderful the Yarnit would be for you and how much easier it is to keep your yarn free from fur baby hair, etc.

I want to tell you that I not only believe in this product but Kate is wanting to expand the Yarnit, as I had mentioned to you earlier, called the Big Sully which holds more yarn and she needs our help!  Please take a few minutes to read all about her business venture and what it will take to make a dream come true!  She’s so close to her goal but still needs help.  There are different pledges you can make that will get you certain products like stitch markers and the current Yarnit she has on the market!  I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.  I’ve been using mine all week!

Southern Diamonds Shawl CAL/Week 5

Last Friday I mentioned to you there would be an extension of the Southern Diamonds Shawl CAL and now it’s ready!  If you were wanting to make your shawl bigger, this blog post will give you the rest of the pattern to get you there!  So many people have made this beautiful shawl and with adding their own sense of style in yarn colors, fibers and such…..the variations are amazing!  I would definitely call this CAL a success!

Supplies:

  • Premier Cotton Fair Yarn, 3.5 oz/317 yards, 52% cotton, 48% Acrylic, Colorway is Blue Iris (3 Skeins)
  • Hook Size:  G/4.0 mm
  • Tapestry Needle for weaving in the ends.

Abbreviations:
beg – beginning
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
rem – remaining
sc – single crochet
sp(s) – space(s)
st(s) – stitch(es)

Special Stitches:
V Stitch (V-st): (dc, ch 1, dc) in indicated st or sp
Shell: (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in indicated st or sp

Gauge: 6 V-sts and 8 rows = 4”

Finished Measurements: 41” x 24”

Notes:
Ch 3 counts as the first dc unless otherwise stated.

Week 5 Extension/Rows 38-49

So if you are here that means you want to make your shawl bigger right?  If you crocheted Rows 38 and 39 from last week’s release (the row of sc stitches and edging) go ahead and take it out.  You won’t need those rows right now.  Your shawl should end on Row 37 from last week and you’ll now start with the instructions below.

Southern Diamonds Shawl Tutorial Part 1

The help just keeps coming for the Southern Diamonds Shawl doesn’t it?  I really want everyone to have the opportunity to crochet this project while having a good time.  I’ve decided to do a tutorial which will come in several parts.  I haven’t really decided a stopping point yet, so I’m not sure how many parts.  I do feel that I will at least go through one entire sequence which means through Row 11.  I’m excited to offer this tutorial for you and hope that it will help!
