The Charleston Shawl Debut!

Oh wow!  It’s finally here!  I’ve loved every minute about designing The Charleston shawl.  I couldn’t sleep one night and just started playing around with yarn and a design started taking shape.  I knew I didn’t have the right yarn, so I pulled out the Lotus Yarn by Vashti.  I knew it was perfect! I hope you’ll fall in love with the pattern like I did.  It’s simple enough in some of its repetitive ways yet still enough to keep you interested!  I know once you’ve finished, you’ll love the elegant look and feel of the shawl!

The Lotus yarn is a Z-twisted yarn made of 52% cotton and 48% rayon… The openness of the stitch work within the pattern really allowed the yarn to “do its job” with the drape.  The feel of the yarn is amazing with such a shimmer that I just can’t capture in its truest form on camera!

Plus, there is also the matter of customer service from Vashti.  The shipping is already included in the price!!! They’ve added some new colors recently too… Go…check it out!

2016 Christmas Present CAL Project #2

Woo Hoo! It’s time for Project #2 of the 2016 Christmas Present Crochet-Along! The Tiara hat is a great match to the Tiara Scarf don’t you think? Now your family will be in style this winter!!

Supplies

  1. Brown Sheep Company , Shepard’s Shades, 100 grams/131 yards, #5 Bulky weight, 100% wool, SS281/Eggplant/30 yards, SS2283/Boysenberry/25 yards, SS2285/Purple Coneflower/35 yards (DISCLAIMER:  If you are allergic to wool, you can use any #5 Bulky weight yarn you choose as a substitute)
  2. J Hook/6.0 mm
  3. Tapestry needle for weaving in the ends.

Finished Sizes:  Small (20″), Medium (22″), and Large (24″)

Gauge:  12 hdc sts  and 10 rows = 4″

Abbreviations:
bpdc – back post double crochet
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet
rem – remaining
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch

Special Stitches:  If you need help with the 3-dc cluster stitch, click HERE for a tutorial!
Beg 3 dc cluster st (Beg Cluster) – (Yo, insert hook into next st, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops) 2 times, yo, pull through all 3 loops.

3 dc cluster st (Cluster) – (Yo, insert hook into next st, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops) 3 times, yo, pull through all 4 loops.

Notes: 
Ch 1 is not considered the first st unless otherwise stated.

I used the remainder of the yarn that I had after I finished the scarf.  Don’t forget to join the ELK Studio Crocheter’s Facebook group where you’ll find all the “ELKies” there to help answer any questions that may come up.  We have everyone from the beginner to the expert so there’s always someone in there that has “been there done that”!
