The Woodman Super Scarf!

Ta-Da!  What do you think about The Woodman Super Scarf???

It’s always so much fun to get the theme from Red Heart as to what the Joy Creators will be designing next!  I wasn’t quite sure how to pull this one off….but I was up for the challenge.  I am quite please with the outcome of The Woodman Super Scarf!  It’s a little on the intermediate side of the crochet level, but hang on because a video tutorial will be coming to help you within the next week!

My choice of yarn for this project was Red Heart Soft.  It’s always one of my “go-to” worsted weight yarns because…..it’s soft.  The yarn gives great stitch definition and is cozy warm too!

Pattern Instructions

Supplies:

• Red Heart Soft 141 grams/256 yards, #4 Worsted weight, 100% Acrylic, 2 skeins Black, 2 Skeins Charcoal, 2 Skeins White,  Approximately 1,024 Yards
• I Hook/5.0 mm
• Tapestry needle for weaving in the ends.

Abbreviations:
bpdc – back post double crochet
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet
rem – remaining
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch

Finished Measurement: 10″ x 86″

Gauge: (In Pattern Measurement) – 14 sts and 9 rows = 4″

Notes:
Ch 3 counts as the first dc in the pattern.
Ch 1 does not count as the first sc in the pattern.
You will not cut your yarn at the end of each row but carry the yarn up the sides.  (It’s like you have 3 working skeins on the yarn all the time).

Color Changes:
Row 1:  Black
Row 2:  Black
Row 3:  Black
Row 4:  White
Row 5:  Charcoal

Since you will be carrying the yarn up with you as you go the sequence will now be black, white and charcoal from Row 6 until Row 206.  At this point, you will use black for rows 207-209.

For a larger or smaller scarf the pattern is Multiples of 4 plus 2

Row 1: Ch 36, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next ch and each rem ch across, turn. (34 dc)

Row 2: Ch 3, (See Pattern Notes), *fpdc around post of next dc, bpdc around post of next dc, repeat from * across until last st, dc in top of ch 3, turn.

Row 3: Ch 3, *skip next st, dc in next st, dc in previous st, dc in next 2 sts, repeat from * across until last st, dc in top of ch 3, turn.

Row 4: Ch 3, *skip next st, bpdc around post of next st, bpdc around post of previous st, 2 dc between next 2 sts, repeat from * across until last st, dc in top of ch 3, turn.

Row 5: Ch 3, *skip next st, fpdc around post of next st, fpdc around post of previous st, 2 dc between next 2 sts, repeat from * across until last st, dc in top of ch 3, turn.

Rows 6-206: Repeat Rows 4-5 or until you have reached your desired width.

Row 207: Ch 3, dc in next st and each rem st across, turn.

Row 208: Ch 3, *fpdc around post of next dc, bpdc around post of next dc, repeat from * across until last st, dc in top of ch 3, turn.

Row 209: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next st and each rem st across until last st, 3 sc top of ch 3, DO NOT TURN. See remaining instructions below.

You will now work sc sts evenly down the side of the scarf until the last st, 3 sc in the first foundation st, sc in next st and each rem st across until last st, 3 sc in last st, work sc sts evenly up the side of the scarf, 2 sc in last st, join by sl st to first st. Fasten Off. Weave in the ends.
