Supplies
- Cascade North Shore, 100 grams/220 yards, #3 DK weight, 100% acrylic, 01 Blue Bell (3 skeins), 03 Sapphire (2 skeins), 07 White (2 Skeins)
- G Hook/4.0 mm
- Tapestry needle for weaving in the ends.
Gauge: 6 V-Stitches and 9 Rows = 4″
Finished Measurement:
Small Baby Blanket (30″ x 32″)
Abbreviations:
beg – beginning
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
rem – remaining
RS – Right Side
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
sp – space
st(s) – stitch(es)
Pattern Notes:
- Ch 3 at beginning of pattern counts as double crochet unless otherwise stated.
- Ch 1 at beginning of pattern does not count as single crochet.
- Join new color in the first st of the previous round unless otherwise stated.
Special Stitches:
V-stitch (V-st): (dc, ch 1, dc) in indicated st or sp
Beginning shell (beg shell): (ch 4, dc, ch 1, dc) in indicated st or sp
Shell: (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in indicated st or sp
Large shell: (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in indicated st or sp
Base round, each side: Multiple of 5 + 4 + corner sts
Note: for Round 1, check that your st count on each side is a multiple of 5 plus 4 more, excluding the one central sc in each corner (e.g., 109 sc). This will ensure you will have the correct number of sts to work Round 4 properly.
Round 1: With RS facing, using Blue Bell, ch 1, 3 sc in last st, (corner formed), sc evenly down side to last st, 3 sc in last st (corner formed), sc in each st across bottom until last st, 3 sc in last st (corner formed), sc evenly up the side to last st, 3 sc in last st (corner formed), sc in each st across top, join by sl st to first sc. (436 sts, 4 corner sts)
Round 2: Join Sapphire, ch 3, 5 dc in corner st, dc in next st and each st around, placing 5 dc in each rem corner st, join with sl st to top of ch 3. (452 dc, 4 corner sts)
Round 3: Join White, ch 1, sc in first st and each st around, placing 3 sc in each corner st, join with sl st to first st. (460 sc, 4 corner sts)
Round 4: Sl st in next st, beg shell (see Special Stitches), *skip next 2 sts, shell (see Special Stitches), in next st (corner shell made), skip next 2 sts, shell in next st, [skip next 4 sts, shell in next st] to last 2 sts before corner, repeat from *, join by sl st to 3rd ch of beg shell. (96 shells)
Round 5: Join Blue Bell in next dc, ch 3, 4 dc in same st, *skip next (ch-1 sp, 2 dc, ch-1 sp), 9 dc in corner st, [skip next (ch-1 sp, 2 dc, ch-1 sp), 5 dc in next st] to corner shell, repeat from *, join by sl st to top of ch 3 of first 5-dc group. (92 5-dc groups, 4 9-dc corner groups)
Round 6: Join White in 3rd dc of-5 dc group, beg shell in same st, *skip next 4 sts, V-st (see Special Stitches), skip next st, large shell (see Special Stitches) in corner st, skip next st, V-st in next st, [skip next 4 sts, shell in next st] until 9-dc corner group, repeat from *, join to 3rd ch of beg shell. (23 shells on each side, 8 V-sts, 4 large shells)
Round 7: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in each ch-1 sp and st around to corner ch-1 sp, placing 3 sc in each corner ch-1 sp, join by sl st to first sc. (516 sts, 4 corner sts)
Round 8: Join Sapphire, ch 3, dc in next st and each st around placing 5 dc in each corner st, join by sl st to top of beg ch-3. (532 sts, 4 corner sts)
Round 9: Join Blue Bell, ch 1, sc in first st and each st around placing 3 sc in each corner st, join by sl st to first sc. Fasten Off. Weave in the ends. (540 sts, 4 corner sts)
