Premier had their Cotton Fair yarn on sale last week, so I took advantage and bought a few balls! I thought it would look lovely turning the Naturally Southern Scarf into a Shawl too! Many of you also asked me to do a “rounded” bottom, so I hope you’ll enjoy that part of the project too!
I’m going to release this pattern in two parts since so many of you want to start crocheting! I will work on the edging over the weekend. I hope I can get it to you before I leave for my conference on Wednesday. Keep your fingers crossed!
UPDATE: 4/26/2017 The Edging Pattern is now available.
Please Favorite or Queue in Ravelry!

I just started this shawl and love the easy, fast pattern.
However, I’m using a worsted weight and H hook. I”m afraid that the shawl will wind up being too long.
Should I dump the yarn or go down to a G hook?
Great job. This one’s a keeper.
Kathy Lashley says
Hi Sophie,
You could easily just make your stopping point sooner and not complete the entire increasing rows. Just stop where you think you’ve reached your desired width and write down that stitch count down….go to the part of the instructions where you are doing no increasing then start back decreasing on the row stitch count that you stopped increasing. I hope that makes sense.

I’m having a heck of a time with the special stitch on this shawl pattern. Maybe you could do a tutorial on it. I’ve started row 73 for the third time and something still doesn’t seem to be right.
Kathy Lashley says
I’ll definitely add it to my list. Just go slow….You can do it Quanah!
Quanah says
Thanks Kathy! I’m working on it!
Quanah says
Okay – the dc2tog special stitch instructions states 2 times at the end after the parenthesis; so, do you complete two of these special stitches? or the YO, pull through 2 loops 2 times? I’m thinking that a stitch diagram for the decrease row (or a couple of decrease rows) would help me out so very much! I know it’s operator error! lol
Starting the decrease row for the 5th time now :o)
Thanks again Kathy!

Where is Part 2 of Naturally Southern Shawl?
BTW, love your alternative to ch 3 without gap.

When will Part 2 post? I’ve completed part one and am curious to see what it looks like to add the edging.

Girl, you have been SOME busy with your crochet design, WOW! I’ve been bookmarking links tonight for them all. I love the pieces you’ve been doing, so many and so lovely – thx for all the great free patterns! I love that you’re using lightweight yarn on some of them too, I live in the south too, SC and it’s so terribly hot w/super mid winters that we have to have lightweight & breathable yarn/blends, and I love working w/lightweight yarn. Bulky is fun to use but I’d never get to wear it! 🙂
Clotilde Menendez/Craftybegonia says
Lovely! The color is so flattering, thank you for sharing, will pin it!

Looking for Part 2 of Naturally Southern Shawl

Yes, I do hope part two is either ready to be released or at least is a work in progress.
