Here are the pattern instructions for Jayden’s Shawl in child sizes. The small was designed for my 2-year old granddaughter, Dakotah and the medium was for Jayden (in the photograph). Getting Dakotah to try it on much less pose for a picture was impossible. You’ll just have to take my word that she looked adorable! You see from the photo that it makes a great cowl too!!!
I’ve debated on how to write this pattern out for better clarity and since this is MY blog, I’m going to write each one separately. I feel that it will be easier for a beginner to read the pattern instructions. So…..if you have lots of experience bear with me and just do a little scrolling. 🙂
Notes:
- I did the pattern using several different options for color patterns. The pattern as written will not reflect the color changes but once you finish the collar, you can do 2 repeating rows of each color or 3 repeating rows of each color. You may have to add or take away a row to get the correct sequence.
- Be aware that in the instructions you will be told to sl st at the end of each round but there will also be instructions to sl st at the beginning of the round too on some parts of the instructions. If you are making color changes, don’t change your color until you make the LAST sl st. For example on the small size pattern, Round 8 has sl st at the end of the pattern instructions, but on Round 9 you will sl st in the first two stitches. I wouldn’t change my color until I was ready to sl st in the 2nd st on Round 9.

I have been crocheting for almost 50 yrs & I prefer the way you wrote out the pattern too!! I hate having to go thru a pattern & decide which numbers of stitches go with which sizes. drives me crazy. especially when it has sizes xs thru 5x (and it is a short trip for me!). such a cute pattern. glad you did it in adult sizes too. hoping the large will work up for me, tho I may have to enlarge it , as hubby says ‘I am a full grown lady’.

Hi Kathy,
I just wanted to let you know, I’m not really a beginner and I prefer the way you wrote out the pattern instructions separately by size…it keeps everything neat and organized, you get the size you need with one click. Excellent decision.
thanks
