ELK Dreams Beanie

The ELK Dreams Beanie is our 4th projects in the Color Wheel Projects sponsored by Michael’s Stores! It’s so exciting to continue using this fabulous yarn to create these fun projects. I think this hat would be perfect for the winter months of course, but also for those going through chemotherapy. It gets really cold in the hospitals and clinics (I know because I work at a hospital) and the ELK Dreams beanie would help keep the chill at bay.

Let me show you the other beautiful projects that I’ve made using the Color Wheel yarn.

Let me give you a recap of the yarn if this is the first time you’ve seen it.

The yarn is a new addition to the Loops and Thread brand and is called Colorwheel. There are 54 colors in the line, and I can tell you by the ones they sent me….you are gonna love it! There are so many shades that compliment one another, you could spend hours trying to figure out a color scheme for your project. You’ll even get 12 variations of the color blue! At this time it is only available in the stores but is expected to be available on line very soon! I’ll be sure to come back and let you know as soon as it is available on line for sure!

Here are the specifications:

The yarn is a (#4) worsted weight yarn
90 yards/1.75 oz/50 grams
Machine wash/tumble dry low
100% anti-pilling
$1.99/skein

The yarn is super soft and would be what I would describe as a full #4 weight yarn. I know some worsted weight can feel lighter but this yarn is a true worsted weight.

The Colorwheel yarn was released in over 800 stores throughout the U.S. and Canada. If you want to know whether the yarn is in your local stores, Michael’s has a store finder on their page. You can easily find the store closest to you and give them a call to see if they have it!

2. Hook Size: H/5.00
3. Tapestry Needle for Weaving in the ends.

Abbreviations:
blo – back loop only
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
rem – remaining
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
sp(s) – space(s)
st – stitch

Gauge: 14 dc and 8 rows = 4″

Skill Level: Easy/Intermediate

Sizes: Small (Medium, Large) designed to fit with 1-3” of negative ease

Finished Measurements: 17″ (20 ½”, 24″) in circumference; 5 ½” (6 ½”, 7 ½”) height

Using Pool Blue, ch 4, join by sl st to first ch to form ring.

Round 1: Ch 2 (See Pattern Notes), 12 dc in ring, join by sl st to first st. (12 dc)

Round 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in first st and each rem st around, join by sl st to first st. (24 dc)

Round 3: Ch 2, dc in first st, 2 dc in next st, *dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, repeat from * around, join by sl st to first st. (36 dc)

Round 4: Ch 2, dc in first st, dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, *dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, repeat from * around, join by sl st to first st. (48 dc)

Round 5: Ch 2, dc in first st, dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, *dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st, repeat from * around, join by sl st to first st. (60 dc)

Round 9: Join Turquoise, ch 2, Beg cluster (See Special Stitches) in first st st, ch 1, skip next st, *cluster (See Special Stitches) in next st, ch 1, skip next st, repeat from * around, join by sl st to first st.

Round 10: Join Pool Blue, ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next ch-1 sp, *sc in next st, sc in next ch-1 sp, repeat from * around, join by sl st to first st.

Rounds 11-18: Repeat Rounds 9-10 (4 times)

Round 19: Ch 1 (See Pattern Notes), sc in blo first st, sc in next blo in next st and each rem st around.

Rounds 20-21: Repeat Round 19 (2 times), Fasten off. Weave in the ends.
