So many of you really loved the look of the Made for the Cold Beanie that I made for the hubby, so I decided to make some other sizing including kid’s sizes! I know….I know…. It’s not really my style to design kid sizes, but I really feel like this beanie would be perfect for the little ones that love to play outside since it’s “double layered”.
Materials:
- Knit Picks Mighty Stitch, #4 Worsted Weight Yarn, 80% Acrylic, 20% Superwash wool, 208 yards/100 grams, Colorway: Cotton Candy and Wisteria. You will use 200-300 yards depending on the size you choose.
- Hook – G/4.0mm
- Tapestry Needle for weaving in the ends.
Abbreviations:
blo – back loop only
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
yo – yarn over
Gauge: 15 dc sts and 8 rows = 4″

Notes:
- Ch 1 is not considered the first single crochet in the pattern.
- Ch 2 is not considered the first double crochet in the pattern.
- The pattern is versatile and you can use any number of stitch count for the pattern to adapt to your size.

Special Single Crochet: (ssc) Insert hook into st, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through one loop, insert hook in front loop only in round below, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through 2 loops, YO, pull through last two loops.
Special Double Crochet: (sdc) YO, insert hook into st, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through 2 loops, YO, insert hook in front loop only in round below, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through 2 loops, YO, pull through last 3 loops.
Round 1: Using Color A, Ch (48,56,64), join by sl st to first chain, ch 1 (See Pattern Notes), sc in first ch, sc in next ch and each rem ch around, join by sl st to first st. (48,56,64 sc)
Round 2: Ch 1, sc in blo in first st, sc in blo of next st and each rem st around, join by sl st to first st.
Round 3: Ch 1, ssc (See Special Stitches) in first st, ssc in next st and each rem st around, join by sl st to first st.
Rounds 4-5: Join Color B, Repeat Rounds 2-3
Rounds 6-7: Join Color A, Repeat Rounds 2-3
Round 8: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next st and each st around.
Round 9: Join Color B, Ch 2, dc in blo in first st, dc in blo of next st and each rem st around, join by sl st to first st.
Round 10: Ch 2, sdc (See Special Stitches) in first st, sdc in next st and each rem st around, join by sl st to first st
You will now repeat the following rounds below:
Repeat Rounds 9-10 (1,2,2) time(s) – Color B
Repeat Round 2-3 – Color A
Repeat Rounds 9-10 – Color B
Repeat Round 2-3 – Color A
Repeat Rounds 9-10 (2,2,3) times – Color B
Decrease Rounds:
Round 1: Using Color B, Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next 5 sts, sc2tog, *sc in next 6 sts, sc2tog, repeat from * around, join by sl st to first st. (42,49,56sts)
Round 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog, *sc in next 5 sts, sc2tog, repeat from * around, join by sl st to first st. (36,42,48 sts)
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog, *sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog, repeat from * around, join by sl st to first st. (30,35,40 sts)
Round 4: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog, *sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog, repeat from * around, join by sl st to first st. (24,28,32 sts) Fasten off. Weave in the ends.
You can add a pom-pom if you want to give it a little boost of color!
