It’s such a pleasure to share this quick, simple and easy Winter Berry Delight Scarf with you! A few months ago I went to a local yarn store in Atlanta. It was lots of fun as always, and I discovered this cool looking yarn from Universal Yarn called Bamboo Bloom Handpaints! It was the first time I had seen this beautiful yarn that’s full of texture. It’s what I would call a “roving” yarn which means there are parts of the yarn which are thick while other parts are thin.
Once I started playing around with the yarn, I realized that I should really design something pretty simple because the yarn is going to do all the work for you. I was right don’t you think?
The parts of the yarn that are thicker seemed to take on a “berry” type look hence the name Winter Berry Delight! I should really thank Trish for the name as I asked the ELKies (members of the ELK Studio Facebook Group) for suggestions!
I hope you’ll check out the yarn and tell them ELK Studio sent ya!

Would you be able to post a photo of the scarf laid out flat? I’m having some issues with the number of stitches/rows matching up. And when it turns to 2 DC per ST, it looks as if the shape completely changes feom a triangle to a hammer-ish shape.
Kathy Lashley says
Hi Kim,
I don’t have the scarf anymore to lay it out. The shape stays triangular throughout the project. Are your stitch counts correct for each row?
Kathy

I have a quick question…when you count the CH3 at the beginning of rows 5 and 6 as the 1st dc, are you actually skipping the first hdc from the prior row? (For example, at the end of row 5 there should be 6 dc, does that include the CH 3 or is that in addition). I’ve attempted it both ways and can’t figure it out.
I love this pattern, though, and can’t wait to finish it!!
Kathy Lashley says
Hi Amy,
I did not count the ch 2 as the first hdc in the pattern. Does that help?

What yarn would you suggest to use in Canada. Not sure I can purchase the yarn here.

Kathy Lashley says
Hi Joan,
The yarn is considered a bulky #5 yarn, so and like that would work. Maybe look at this one. I’m not sure if it’s available but you could check it out. http://www.michaels.com/isaac-mizrahi-craft-skyscraper-yarn/M10432245.html?cm_mmc=Affiliate-_-CJ-_-4386639-_-11713800&utm_source=CJ&utm_medium=4386639&utm_campaign=11713800&utm_term=CRAFT%20Skyscraper%20Yarn%20by%20Isaac%20Mizrahi&affSource=4386639_11713800

Thanks for the beautiful pattern! I have one question. Are the stitches to get gauge double crochet or half double crochet? Thanks again!
Trish
Kathy Lashley says
Double crochet! I’ll edit when I get
A chance. Thanks Trish!

Hi Kathy,
Row 36 has 24 stitches with a 1 stitch increase per row. If I continue to row 42, I will have a total of 30. So if I add 2 ST per ST, then row 43 will have 60 DC. The pattern says I should have 45. This is also where the hammer shape seems to begin.
