I’ve had a great week at my daughter’s house in San Antonio, Texas. It makes me sad to go home tomorrow….. We always have a good time and this time is no different. My daughter and I went to the Michael’s here in San Antonio because I didn’t really bring any yarn for the kids to play with and they always want to play with my yarn.
I bought 2 skeins of the Red Heart Gum Drop Yarn! It’s such a soft and “fun” yarn to use and once the girls saw the yarn….they wanted hats. I started with the Grape Color yarn and designed this fun hat as you can see by Dakotah modeling it below!
With the next skein of Red Heart Gumdrop yarn, Rock Candy, I started the hat off the same way but increased the stitches by 4. Once I started making the bottom of the hat, the yarn started “pooling”. Once I realized it was pooling, I decided to just continue with the same stitches and ended up the the hat you can see below modeled by my other granddaughter, Jayden.
What do you think about the hats? Isn’t it amazing that you can get such different looks from the same brand of yarn just by the stitches you choose?
If you are interested in the patterns, please comment and let me know. If I get “plenty” (like hundreds) of comments, I’ll work on the patterns when I get back home from Texas. It’s up to you though…..
I would love some name suggestions too! It would be lots of fun to see what you (the ELKies) choose for a name!
And….since I have 3 grands, you know I have to crochet one more hat. It’s for my little man. I chose to use Red Heart Soft for his project and can show you once it’s done. This hat will be worked with the same design as the first hat you see but from the top down. I like guys wearing those types of hat and figured some of you would like it that way anyway!

Love the hats and that you have family in San Antonio where we are! Would love the hat patterns if you are still sharing, especially the color pooling! Thanks!
I’ve been following you on your blog and on Facebook. I just love everything you share. Both of these hats are so, so, so very cute. Pattern please? Thank you.
OMGosh! I love BOTH the hats! I have 9 grandchildren and the 10th due on New Years’ Day. Would love to have these patterns!
For the first hat: Confection Cloche
For the second: Pooling Swirls Beanie
I would love to have your patterns for my granddaughters. Your have such cute grands!
Love both. Can’t wait for the boy’s hat. Got a new grandson. Please write patterns.
Dakotah’s hat–Swirl your colors
Jaydon’s hat-Choose your color pools
Love both designs on the hats. I would like the patterns if you decide to write out the pattern.
I would absolutely love both patters, they are gorgeous! Maybe I would have better luck pooling in the round lol
Love both hats and would love the patterns.
Both hats are cute. I have 5 grands ages 19 to 6 plus a foster grandbaby….2 months……………..would love to get some done before Christmas , but probably more realistic to do them after Christmas (in the snow days)
Love both, and I think you’ve had some great names suggested that I can’t top!
I am amazed at how creative you are! Always making something new, like with these hats, they aren’t just hats, the stitches are so great! I tend to be silly with names so I suggest, Da Bomb for Dakotas’s hat and Jay Swirl for Jayden’s. 🙂
Thank you for all you do!!
I love the hat Jayden is modeling. I prefer that style hat because I think, with a color change, it could be worn by either a male or female. I would name that hat Jayden’s Pooling Streams. It looks like the colors are cascading down a stream into a pool of color at the bottom. I think the look is extremely unique and would definitely want the pattern for this hat.
The one on Dakotah is adorable and would be perfect for my niece who is a pink & purple fanatic.
yes, Love both patterns, yes, I would like a pattern for them. Nice job, models!
I don’t know about copyright laws but how about goody gumdrops hats!! They are So cute, and I would love to try to recreate your pooling on a hat!! Can’t wait for the patterns!!
I love both hats. My grand daughter and one of my grandsons would love these. I’d love the patterns. I crochet hats for the homeless here. These would be great! Thank you.
Wonderful
I love both patterns. Especially the texture on the first one. Well done!!!
Would love to have the hat patterns. Can you write it for adults also, please.
Yes I would like to have the pattern and I am sure so would everyone else. Great pattern.

Yes, please do write up the pattern you made for Dakota. I have had 3 skeins in another gumdrop color way+ haven’t been able to decide how to use them, until now.
Love the hats Kathy, the pooling looks amazing. How does this sound Jaydens Gumdrop and Dakota Grapes?
Love both hats! How about Dakotah Dream and Jayden-Gram (The way it pooled makes me think of the charts from the electrocardiograms and since her “gram” made it….:)
Both hats are wonderfully different. I bet your grandkids love for you to make all sorts of things for them.
Very cute been doing it too! 😊
love love love
Oh Yes, please share the patterns. I love your hat patterns! I use them frequently when I start a box of hats for my local Chemo patient charity.
Great work as always. I would love to have the patterns for all 3 of the hats (I am sure the third will be just as cute as the other 2).
As for names, find a way to name them after the grand they were made for.
Both are beautiful. You do awesome work.

I love the way Rock Candy looks!
I would like to see the boys hat. I have a nephew that has our grown the one I made for him last year and wants one in orange and black (school colors) this year.
I think you’ll like that version too. I’m hoping to finish it soon!
I love both but Jayden’s is a great example of pooling. What about “Jayden’s Stream”?
I love that name!
Name suggestion for grape one: Beanie Buzz
Grey: Beanie Twirl
Very cool!
Pool Around for thst clever pooled hat. Would love to have suggestions on pooling in the round. There are so many pretty varigated yarns bit until now didn’t like them in the round.
Thanks! I do like the name!
wow I really like the second one!
Thank you!
Love your work. Can’t wait to see the patterns but in m ran time enjoy your family…..
I’ve had a great time!
The hats are just adorable and so are the girls. I’m not good with names but how about naming each for the grandchild modeling it? I bet they’d be tickled pink having their name on one of your gorgeous creations.
Looked for you live this morning but forgot you were out of town.
That’s a thought!!!
I prefer the Grape color hat style but they’re both cute! Yes, write the patterns!
Thank you Liz!
