Hi,I tried making this, but I counted 91 stitches including the corner stitches.i tried doing it twice.got the same mistake.don,t know where I missed
Kathy Lashley says
Hi Sami,
On the first round it states to chain 2 and double crochet in the same stitch. Is that maybe where you are missing that one stitch?
Naomi H says
Love this poncho! Do you think if I used a smaller hook and thinner yarn that this would fit a 9YO girl? My daughter is tall for her age, and skinny as a bean pole.
As a side note, your beanies are the bomb! My husband can’t make his mind as to which hat he wants me to make for him.
Kathy Lashley says
Hey Naomi!
I think that just might work! I’m so glad you love my hat patterns! You’ll have to show me what you end up making for the hubby!
Peggy Fredendall says
Would this work up ok with a lighter yarn and a bigger hook for a lighter look?
Kathy Lashley says
You could always try it out Peggy! I gave the instructions to help you for repeating the rows if you need them.
Kathy Lashley says
Hi Peggy!
You may need to do some increase rows, but I tell you where to repeat in the pattern. I think it will work out fine for you.
Tammy says
I have never made a pincho before. Super excited to finish this one. Thank you for the pattern!
I have a question about the count. I always come out with four extra stitches. What am I doing wrong?
Kathy Lashley says
Hi Tammy,
You probably aren’t doing anything wrong. The 4 corner stitches are NOT included in the stitch count. Could that be the culprit?
Tammy says
I don’t think that’s it. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I only have 72 double crochet without counting the corner stitches.
Kathy Lashley says
Hey Tammy,
Maybe you can send me a picture of your work so that I can better see what’s happening. If you only have 72 double crochet stitches, maybe you didn’t start out with enough chain stitches, because you are supposed to chain 76 in the beginning. You can email me a photo at elkstudiocrochet@gmail.com, and I’ll take a look and reply in the morning. I’m retiring for the night.

Okay. Thank you. I did.
Jenn says
Is there a way to increase the neck opening without distorting the pattern? I have been looking for the perfect poncho pattern for my mother in law, but when I work up the first few rounds, it seems a bit snug ( I crochet tight, so it’s probably just me? ) I am wondering if just dropping an extra dc or two in between each corner would work or maybe just going up a hook size or two, but was wondering if you’d tried that?
Kathy Lashley says
Hi Jenn,
Maybe you can try a larger hook size for what you are trying to accomplish. Increasing a couple of stitches would distort the pattern and the math wouldn’t work. Hope this helps. If increasing the hook size doesn’t work, let me know.
Kathy

If I were to make an XL size, would I need more than 6 rolls of yarn?
Kathy Lashley says
Possibly 7-8 rolls. Are you buying at a local store where you can return what you don’t use? I tried to do the extra repeat and would have used all of the 4th roll and going into the 5th for sure and it only grows as you continue. I would rather have too much ya know? I hope this helps.
