Wow oh Wow!  What an incredible time we’ve had doing our Christmas Present Crochet-Along!  It’s never too late to join either!  Our 2nd project is a matching hat to Project #1 which was a cowl!  It would make a wonderful set and one that is sure to go over well as a Christmas Present!

Supplies List:
1. Queensland Collection Brisbane #4 Worsted Weight Yarn, 3.52 oz/100 grams, 144 yards, 100% Superwash Wool, Colorway/07 (You can use any #4 Worsted Weight Yarn you have in your stash!) You will need approximately 220 yards for this project.
2. Hook – I/5.5 mm
3. Tapestry Needle for weaving in the ends.

Gauge: 13 sc st and 8 rows = 4”

Abbreviations:
bphdc – back post half double crochet
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet – Moogly will help you with her video tutorial if you need it!
fphdc – front post half double crochet
sc – single crochet
sc2tog – single crochet 2 stitches together
sl st – slip stitch

Notes: If you want a bigger or smaller project, make sure you chain in multiples of 4.
Ch 1 does not count as first st
Ch 3 counts as first dc

ch (60,64,68) join by sl st to first ch, ensuring that your chain is not twisted.

Round 1: ch 1 (does NOT count as first sc), sc in first ch, sc in next ch and each ch around; join by sl st to first sc. (60, 64, 68 st)

Round 2: ch 1, fphdc around post of first st, bphdc around post of next st, *fphdc around post of next st, bphdc around post of next st, repeat from *around; join by sl st to first st (60, 64, 68 st)

Rounds 3-5: Repeat Round 2

Round 6: ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc next in next st and each st around; join by sl st to top of 3Rd ch. (60,64,68 st)

Round 7: ch 1 (does NOT count as first sc), sc in first st, 3 fpdc around next st, *sc in next st, 3 fpdc around next st; repeat from *; join by sl st to first st. (120,128,136 st)

Round 8: ch 1 (does NOT count as first sc), sc in first st, *skip next fpdc, sc in next fpdc, skip next fpdc, sc in next sc; repeat from * until last 3 fpdc, skip next fpdc, sc in next fpdc, skip next fpdc; join by sl st to first st. (60,64,68 st)

Round 9: ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc next in next st and each st around; join by sl st to first st. (60,64,68 st)

Round 10: ch 1 (does NOT counts as first sc), 3 fpdc around first dc, sc in next st, *3 fpdc around next st, sc in next st; repeat from *; join by sl st to first fpdc. (120,128,136 st)

Round 11: sl st in next st, ch 1, sc in same st, skip next fpdc, sc in next sc, *skip next fpdc, sc in next fpdc, skip next fpdc, sc in next sc; repeat from *, join by sl st to first st. (60, 64, 68 st).

Repeat Rounds 6-11 (2 more times) or until your reach desired length. The hat should measure around 7” in length.

Round 24: ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next st, sc2tog, *sc in next 2 st, sc2tog, repeat from *; join by sl st to first sc. (45, 48, 51 st)

Round 25: ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next st and around; join by sl st to first st. (45, 48, 51 st)

Round 26: ch 1, sc in first st, sc2tog, *sc in next st, sc2tog, repeat from *; join by sl st to first st. (30, 32, 34 st)

Round 27: ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next st and around; join by sl st to first st. (30, 32, 34 st)

Round 28: Repeat round 27.

Do not fasten off. Measure out 8-10“of yarn to weave through every other sc.

Take your tapestry needle and weave under the loops of every other sc around, pull the yarn tightly. This will close up the hat. Sew the top of the hat with a few stitches for security. Fasten off.

Optional Round: Holding the hat upside down, insert hook into bottom row of band and form a sl st, ch 1 and sc in same st, sc in next st and each st around, join with sl st to first sc. (60, 64, 68 st)
