I was curious the other day how many people would be making the bulky yarn beanie! The response was amazing! Everyone has really seemed to enjoy our Christmas Present Crochet-Along and it’s very energetic to see all the projects showing up in the group! I hope you’ll love this one just as much as the cowl!

Supplies List:
1. Red Heart Infinity Yarn, 3.5 oz/100 grams, 129 yards, #5 Bulky Yarn, Fiber Content: 69%Acrylic, 11% Wool, 10% Polyester, 6%Nylon, and 4% Metallic –You will need approximately 150-170 yards (2 Skeins) (or any #5 Bulky yarn you already have in your stash)!
2. Hook – K/6.5mm
3. Tapestry Needle for weaving in the ends.
Gauge: 11 sc st and 10 rows = 4”
Abbreviations:
bphdc – back post half double crochet
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet – Moogly will help you with her video tutorial if you need it!
fphdc – front post half double crochet
sc – single crochet
sc2tog – single crochet 2 stitches together
sl st – slip stitch
Notes: If you want a bigger or smaller project, make sure you chain in multiples of 4.
Ch 1 does not count as first st
Ch 3 counts as first dc

Medium – 20”- 21”
Large – 22”- 23”
ch (52,56,60 st) join by sl st to first ch, ensuring that your chain is not twisted.
Round 1: ch 1 (does NOT count as first sc), sc in first ch, sc in next ch and each ch around; join by sl st to first sc. (52,56,60 st)
Round 2: ch 1, fphdc around post of first st, bphdc around post of next st, *fphdc around post of next st, bphdc around post of next st, repeat from *around; join by sl st to first st (52,56,60 st)
Rounds 3-4: Repeat Round 2
Round 5: ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc next in next st and each st around; join by sl st to first st.(52,56,60 st)
Round 6: ch 1 (does NOT count as first sc), sc in first st, 3 fpdc around next st, *sc in next st, 3 fpdc around next st; repeat from *; join by sl st to first st. (104, 112, 120 st)
Round 7: ch 1 (does NOT count as first sc), sc in first st, *skip next fpdc, sc in next fpdc, skip next fpdc, sc in next sc; repeat from * until last 3 fpdc, skip next fpdc, sc in next fpdc, skip next fpdc; join by sl st to first st. (52,56,60 st)
Round 8: ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc next in next st and each st around; join by sl st to first st. (52,56,60 st)
Round 9: ch 1 (does NOT counts as first sc), 3 fpdc around first dc, sc in next st, *3 fpdc around next st, sc in next st; repeat from *; join by sl st to first fpdc. (104, 112, 120 st)
Round 10: sl st in next st, ch 1, sc in same st, skip next fpdc, sc in next sc, *skip next fpdc, sc in next fpdc, skip next fpdc, sc in next sc; repeat from *, join by sl st to first st. (52,56,60 st)
Repeat Rounds 5-10 (1 more times) or until your reach desired length. The hat should measure around 7” in length.
Round 17: ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next st, sc2tog, *sc in next 2 st, sc2tog, repeat from *; join by sl st to first sc. (39,42,45 st)
Round 18: ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next st and around; join by sl st to first st. (39,42,45 st)
Round 19: ch 1, sc in first st, sc2tog, *sc in next st, sc2tog, repeat from *; join by sl st to first st. (26,28,30 st)
Round 20: ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next st and around; join by sl st to first st.(26,28,30 st)
Round 21: Repeat round 20. (26,28,30 st)
Do not fasten off. Measure out 8-10“of yarn to weave through every other sc.
Take your tapestry needle and weave under the loops of every other sc around, pull the yarn tightly. This will close up the hat. Sew the top of the hat with a few stitches for security. Fasten off.
