UPDATE: 11/25/2015 I have added the right-handed version tutorial!
Here’s is a video tutorial on how to do a “normal” front post double crochet and a different technique for doing the back post double crochet. It essence, the different way of doing the bpdc will give the bpdc/fpdc when done in rows a unique wavy effect. I hope you enjoy this video!
Here is a picture of a normal fpdc/bpdc stitch and the new technique of doing the bpdc stitch.
Why would you want to use this stitch? It will help you with the Just Groovin’ Beanie!
The instructions for doing the normal bpdc is as follows: YO, insert hook from back to front around of stitch indicated, YO, and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), (YO and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice
The instruction for doing the bpdc with the different technique is the same as above expect that instead of wrapping the yarn forward around the hook, you will wrap the yarn backwards and when you pull through, you will wrap the yarn backwards to pull through. Your hook will always be facing backwards from you when you are pulling through the loops. That is what will give the different style to the project.

Hi Kathy,
Love this pattern but am having a lot of difficulty in getting the same look that you do with the back post twist.
Have tried six times and still get a slip stitch look running across after two rows (on both sides). Have followed the video, but am not getting any wavy effect as you do. Can you give me some help or do I just keep undoing the work and try again.
Many thanks, Donna M

Hi Donna,
I may need to see what you are talking about with your work. If you want to send a pic to elkstudiocrochet@gmail.com and let me know where you are having problems, I’ll see if I can help you.

So, according to this video, I have to do this LEFT handed? even tho I am a “rightie”?
That makes no sense…is there another video or is it really done left handed?
Kathy Lashley says
Carol,
You don’t have to do the stitch left-handed. I’m just left-handed and demonstrated how I could. You can take the technique and certainly do it right=handed.

Any possibility of doing a video tutorial for right handed people?
Kathy Lashley says
I’m talking with someone to help me invert the video. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

LOVE THIS PATTERN, BUT I NEED THE RIGHT HAND VERSION
Kathy Lashley says
I am left handed and don’t have the equipment to invert the video.

I was lacking into the length…thanks so much..and I would love to hear if u had any patterns or tips specifically for cotton yarn…thanks again….Ginger
