Mountain Mist is a great hat with lots of texture!! I really love how the fpdc stitches give such a thickness to the hat, and I’m pretty sure it will keep you warm in the upcoming winter months. I’ll probably have to make the hubby one with some “manly” colors! I’m also thinking of a few other projects I’ll make using this stitch too!!

Sorry, should have mentioned that the v stitches for the next row were worked into the space created by the chain stitch between single chains. I totally fail at trying to describe patterns, I hope it isn’t too confusing.

Hi,
I was really intrigued by this pattern, row five was a challenge because I just kept thinking there was a mistake. I ended up making a different pattern altogether without realizing it! My version was to fpdc in the first dc of the v stitch, then slip stitch into the v, chain one and fpdc into the first dc of the next v stitch. Row six I did single chain into top of each fpdc and chain one between. I don’t know if this makes sense to you, it actually looks pretty good! I think it is probably less dense than if each stitch of the v stitch had fpdc around it. So now I am going to try my hand t doing the correct pattern!

I have been having a hard time with Round 5 but from reading the comments I think I figured it out. However, I want to make sure I am right. You sl st to join then sl st into first V st (which will be inbetween the ch3 and the first “actual” dc), ch1, fpdc in around dc (which will be the ch3 dc), sl st again into the same V st, ch1 then fpdc in other dc of V st. Then just repeat the rest of the way around. I really hope I am not over thinking this. Lol. TIA. By the way, wonderful and beautiful patterns. Thank you so much for sharing those wonderful masterpieces with us.

Thank you for the free pattern. I enjoy your patterns

I apparently crochet very rightly because even when I added ten stitches to the pattern it was still too small for my husband. However, I was able to reduce the stitches and make great hats for my two daughters! For my two month old I did 40 stitches instead of 60 and for my 2 year old I did 50 stitches. Then I repeated rounds 4-6 only as many times as I needed to in order to fit their heads. I followed the pattern in everything except for how many stitches to do.
I’d like to thank you for a great pattern! Is there a way I can upload pictures of how the girls’ hats turned out?

Love this hat….but using the I 5.5 hook was tight for my 20 1/2 inch adult head. Anyone else have that problem?
Kathy Lashley says
Leslie,
I think you are the first person to tell me your hat was too small. Most of the time people say it’s too big! Lol. You could try using a larger hook. That may help you.

Love the Mountain Mist scarf and hat. I printed off a copy but would like your permission to make some copies for my fiber arts gathering on Wednesday. I am going to give it to one of the ladies (along with some yummy yarn) who is moving away. I know everyone else is going to want the pattern. Would you rather I just give them the website?
Kathy Lashley says
Suzanne,
Thanks for asking. I would rather each person print off their own pattern please if you don’t mind. I would love to see the finished projects too!

Suzanne Ulrich says
Ok, I will give them your website!

Thank you!
Darlene says
How many v stitches should there be at the end on row 5?
Kathy Lashley says
Darlene,
If you ended your increase rounds with 60 stitches, you should have 30 V-Stitches on Round 5. Hope this helps.

This is such a beautiful pattern. What adjustments do I need to make if I wanted to make one for my 2yr old toddler?
Kathy Lashley says
Dotty,
I didn’t design the hat for a toddler, so I’m not quite sure without constructing another design entirely to tell you with accuracy. I’m sorry that I don’t have time to do that right now but it’s something I’ll keep in mind for the future!

You are so welcome Zasu!
Kathy Lashley says
Alicia,
after you join with a sl st, sl st again but into the first V-Stitch. You will ch 1 (do not count this as a stitch) and fpdc around the 1st leg of the V-Stitch then sl st into the V-Stitch and ch 1 (do not count the sl st or ch 1 as a stitch) then you will fpdc around the second leg of the V-Stitch and repeat that process all the way around. Let me know if this helps you.

Well dang I get to round 20 and run out of yarn… Thought I had another skein of the crown jewel but NO it’s fruit punch 🙁 so…. Time to unravel about 15 rounds and go ahead and do it with two colors lol that’s what I get for not goin exactly by pattern lol
