I’m so proud to once again partner with Crochet for Cancer and design this hat in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness this month. Southern Sweetness has great texture which is perfect for the chemo patient needing something to keep them warm in the winter months that are soon approaching. I’m giving you two styles which you can see in the photo. One is with a nice brim and the other is just a simple beanie pattern.
My prayer would be that in honor of receiving this pattern for free that you would make at least one hat and donate it to a local charity or give it to someone you know fighting cancer. Giving back to those in need is one of the best things we can do in life. If you’ve never given to charity, try it out. The feeling will leave you overwhelmed with joy. You can always read about my charity, ELK Studio – From the Heart to learn how we give back.

Pattern Instructions
Supplies:
1. Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice Yarn Worsted Weight 100 grams, 170/yd. Approximately 80-100 yds.
2. Hook – I/5.5
3. Tapestry Needle for weaving in the ends
Abbreviations:
dc – double crochet
hdc – half double crochet
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
Gauge:
12 dc stitches and 6 rows = 4″
Notes: Please remember these notes or your stitch count won’t come out right. If you’ve followed my patterns before, you’ll note that I always have used the ch 1 and sc in the same space on my hats but this one is a little different. Because of the stitching, using a ch1 and sc in same space on round 7-14 didn’t look right and made the join appear bulky. Please remember the chain 1 counts on these rounds only.
Ch2 does not count as first dc in rounds 1-6
Ch 1 does count as first sc in round 7-14
Ch 1 does not count as first sc in rounds 15-18
Ch 1 does not count as first sc in the brim
ch 4, sl st into first ch to make a ring.

Mine turned out great. Should fit a 6 month old baby. Do I really crochet that tight ????
Kathy Lashley says
Hi Michele,
I’m glad the hat turned out great. About the size…. Did you use the same size hook and worsted weight yarn? Did you check your gauge? Those are the things I would check first. Hope this helps

Yep, Vanna’s Choice with an I (5.5 m) hook. Yep, I really crochet that tight !! LOL !!!! Going up 2 hook sizes and try again. Not frogging this one, it’s too pretty.
Michele Vincent says
I went with the hook size recommendation on the yarn label and got a nice size hat. I’ll donate the smaller hat also. Little girls get cancer too. God bless you !!!
Kathy Lashley says
Blessings to you. I pray for your healing and what an incredible act to make the hats for others.
