Some of the things women go through just to be cute. I mean…. we wax our eyebrows, upper lips and other various places that I won’t even mention! We wear high heel shoes that after 2 hours are killing our feet. We spend countless amounts of time and money on our hair, make-up and clothes! Why? Just to be cute……
Well after you’ve done all the above mentioned, you need to make yourself this “Just to be Cute” Slouchy Beanie. I designed it with no other purpose in mind. Many of the hats I design are made with a yarn that’s sure to keep you warm in the winter or keep your head shaded in the summer. Just to be Cute slouchy is neither. You simply wear it for looks and why not? You wear all other types of accessories just to be cute don’t you? The perfect earrings and necklace would be a great addition to top off your cuteness while wearing the slouchy beanie!
I used Cascade Ultra Pima Cotton for this project and loved it. I thought it was perfect and allowed each stitch to show itself within the hat. If you’ve never used it before, you can read about it on Yarn Discovery and see the other project I made using the yarn. Craftsy also has great prices for the yarn too.

hi can I use the hobby lobby I love this yarn for the hat
Kathy Lashley says
Hi Glenda,
Hobby Lobby I Love this Yarn is a worsted weight and the pattern called for a #3 weight yarn. Your project would turn out larger than you would probably want.

Would “I love this cotton” yarn work? Or does it have to be this brand of cotton yarn? Love the pattern but don’t think I want to buy the yarn online and I can’t find it in stores. Thank you.
Kathy Lashley says
You could try the Hobby Lobby brand, but the Cascade yarn is thinner. You would need to adjust your initial stitch count accordingly. Cascade is usually carried in Local Yarn stores. It’s not a “big box” store brand.

my local Ben Franklin carries Cascade brand, so some do.

I love this pattern. For the scarf though I flipped it so the pattern would go around the edge of the scarf instead. Problem is I am finding that the rows don’t end up in the same place. On row 7 when you slip stitch to first sc it is in the ch3 space from the row below rather that above the same stitch previously. Is this what you intended. Looking at the hat it looks like it “moves over” a little bit to. Also I found that 6 stitches didn’t work out (by trying it 🙂 as you need a twelve count to make it work. Please let me know if I’m losing my mind….won’t be the first time, definitely won’t be the last lol. Thank you for all your hard work.
Kathy Lashley says
Pam,
Do you mean that you are working the scarf in the round instead of turning it back and forth? The stitch count will be off because you have to account for the dc stitch that is added on each end of the scarf (your turning chains). The pattern is basically the same for the hat but you are right when it “moves over” because working in a pattern in the round different because in order for it work, I took out the extra 2 dc stitches. I hope this helps you to understand that you aren’t losing your mind. I just didn’t construct the scarf pattern to work in the round.

With this pattern you say multiples of 6 so if I wanted to make it a little smaller for like a toddler would 54 chains to start with work? Kinda a beginner.
Kathy Lashley says
I haven’t made the hat for a toddler, so I’m not exactly sure of the correct number of stitches but yes….54 would work.

Kathy, I can’t thank you enough for this pattern! I was just about to start a slouchy search today…one of our daughter-likes is having a birthday later this month. The pattern came to me, not me having to look! Timing is everything! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Yay! Glad to hear it. Would love to see them!
