UPDATE: The pattern is FREE and available on the blog. Click HERE to get the pattern.
I started on this hat pattern about a month ago but never did get around to finishing it. I thought it was a pretty pattern but it didn’t seem to jump out at me like I had hoped. Well, I picked it back up a few nights ago using the Red Heart Soft turquoise……that was my problem! It was my color choice! I shouldn’t have done the original pattern in CREAM!
Here’s the hat in a mix of green/white and then done in a solid turquoise. What do you think?
I’m working it up again now in a different color and still tweaking the pattern a little, but it’s almost finished. I’m wondering if I should make this pattern free? So, here’s the deal. If you can convince me that it should be, I’ll do it. Leave your comments, begs and pleas telling me why I should make it free. I want some creativity too folks. Your crocheters, so I know you can think of something! Let’s have some fun!
Have a great day and be blessed!
Kathy
Love it. Would love to try it in Several
Colors.
I represent the NYC Crochet Guild. I am the education teacher and I try to give our member info on where to find beautiful patterns like yours for free. We support many charities in the NY area. We are currently collecting for the an organization call StreetWorks and its for young adult’s ages 14 to 24 that live in shelters and on the street. I believe in making a beautiful hat not just a plane beanie. This pattern is very beautiful and I would even like to teach our members how to make it if it became free and with your permission.
I love all your designs you are very talented person. Your talent is spread in helping others create and be generous. Thank you so much.
The pattern is actually free Myrian. Click HERE and it will take you to the pattern. 🙂
Because you are very nice person!
Would love this as a free pattern. The majority of my projects I contribute to the local From The Heart group, a nonprofit crochet/knit group who knit/crochet for the community…we give our talent to local food banks, veterans hospitals, hospital groups – cancer patients, new moms, etc. It is a gift of love and I would love to get this pattern and product for the community…in your image…
So many hat patterns but this is one that makes me want to show my grandchildren just what Grammy can do. It is a true make for them for the holidays. Hope it will be free soon!! Need to get started. Thank you!
Would love to see this pattern for free! I’m signed up for your newsletter so I will be keeping an eye out for it!
The pattern is free and available! It’s called Morning Frost. You can find it in the Free Pattern menu under Hat Patterns. I’m mobile right now or I would give you the link. I hope you enjoy the newsletter too!!

Would really love to see this pattern be free. With 7 nieces, 3 nephews, 3 grandkids, 1 grand nephew and many other children to crochet for, free patterns are the only thing I can manage.
The hat is free! Its called Morning Frost and can be found on the fre hat patterns menu.
Please please make this pattern free !! Your patterns are easy for me to follow and I have a hard time reading others .. I started crocheting this year and love making differant hats , one for all the guys in the family and scarfs and hats for all the girls .. lol yes the girls get more . Sorry guys .

Brenda
Thats awesome! I know they will love them.
Thank you for the variety you give us and the easy but interesting & awesome looking patterns They help us all all make pieces this flatter our talent that we so love to do!
You are so creative. All your patterns are beautiful and easy to understand. Please offer this for free. Thank you for all you do.
I love all your patterns.Thank you so much for sharing. By all means please post this one as well on Ravelry.
It actually is on Ravelry. It’s called Morning Frost. I am mobile right now or would link it for you.
One of my YouTube friends Yolanda Soto Lopez is asking for 800 hats and scarves to be donated to orphanages in Mexico. I have been making them for the last month, 2-3 a day and I would love to have this pattern if you offered it for free. The children would adore it. I can only afford to buy the yarn and pay for shipping of hundreds of items that I make and send. Thank You very much.
Eva,
The pattern is free and called Morning Frost. You will find it on the Free patterns tab under Hat patterns. Good luck on your crochet!! It’s a wonderful thing to donate.
I am in the process of making chemo hats to donate to my local hospital. I am using your Hounds Tooth pattern for all the men’s hats and would love to see this pattern free. I would use it for the womens hats. Thank you for you generosity on all of your free patterns. I wish I had the talent to create a pattern.
Just found your Web site. Did you ever post this hat pattern? It is so cute, I would love to make it.
Lilly,
I did make this hat. It’s called Morning Frost. Enjoy!!
Just found your web site – your patterns are so cute! I downloaded a couple of the free hat patterns, would love to add this one to the collection. Also like the Seasonal Bliss hat & headband. I’m making hats, headbands & scarves for Special Olympics so looking for new patterns & now looking forward to working up some of your patterns. Thanks so much!
ALWAYS love free, but having designed a few things myself, I know how hard it is to design, let alone write it down so others can make what you’ve designed. Either way, I love it and I’ll grab a copy when it’s available. Keep up the great work! Love your patterns!
Because you are such a kind, sharing, generous designer and because this would make a perfect green and white pep rally hat for my granddaughter! Thanks so much either way!
I’m new to your site and love your creative patterns. I’m also very thankful for those you offer free.
I recently made a few scarfs from one of your other free patterns and have to say I loved the looks of it. Will be trying one of your hats next, but would really like to try this one!!
Why should it be free? Because you are such a nice generous lady and you love to share your talents with us….How is that for an answer? 🙂 Really love working on your patterns…so easy to follow
OMG….. please make it free!!! I just love all of your patterns!!! Your patterns are easy to follow.
Love this hat.. Would love the pattern…
Love all the things that you create and share.
Love the pattern please share
Your work and designs are beautiful! I’ve been crocheting for a while but mostly scarfs and afghans. I’d like to push myself a bit and try a hat, so I’d love to see your hat in pattern form. I’m good at written instructions but want to try illustrated ones as well. Any suggestions where I should start? Appreciate your help and your site. It’s terrific!
Ann
I make hats for the homeless in Toledo, Ohio. This is really a pretty hat. I think the recipients would be proud to wear them! Be thankful that God blessed you with the gift of being able to create crochet designs. He gave us gifts to share. Bless you 🙂
love your hat pattern. its truly beautiful. Please make it a free pattern cause a mother of two with a one income can’t afford a paid pattern. true be told. I enjoy your patterns. they are pieces of artwork.
I love your patterns. Thus is there first place I check for new hats. Free is very nice. I like the infinity hat and would enjoy trying the pattern. Thank you!
These hats are too cute…I have never made a hat before…but I am going to try….wish me luck
I have just recently begun to crochet and I love infinity scarves and hats! Free patterns are great although I struggle reading them but am making progress! I follow you on pinterest and your blog.
Over time reading patterns will get easier. Thanks for following!! Happy crocheting!
Kathy
Free is always nice but you should be getting something for your time and work .. Love the look!
Love the hat!! Your work is always lovely! 🙂
Not sure if I replied……I LOVE LOVE LOVE the pattern. I enjoy making hats for charity and so appreciate when there’s a new, free pattern to try out. Thanks, Kathy!!!
I have just recently discovered your patterns…. love them. This hat is very cute….. would love to have the pattern…. Free would be GREAT!
Love it, my daughter and I make hats and scarves for the homeless, and this would be a nice heavy one to make.
It’s lovely! I’m a beginner, and really tired of making scarves and cowls, but here in the polar vortex (WI), they’re needed! I’m ready to “graduate”, and this is a beautiful hat…..I’d love to try it for my next project!
Love this textured hat Kathy! It is a fabulous design – perfect for both men and women 🙂 You could always offer it to free to those who commented 😉 and sell it to those who didn’t! Rhondda
Thanks Rhondda and that’s a pretty good idea!!! Hmmm…I may have to consider it.
Kathy
Yes please would love the pattern awesome I have a lot of grandchildren I can make for them.
Please please please! Lol, I love this hat&i love love love free patterns! Not that is not worth buying. … But free is always b
etter! 😀
Beautiful pattern. I love hoe you are taking crochet to a new level, where we are past the “basic” crochet look. I love both looks, and you are right, color makes a difference in showcasing a great pattern. If all the other pleas and/or arguments have not convinced you to offer free (even for a limited time), maybe the idea of being the one to elevate crochet to a new high in art may sway you. Either way, I cannot wait for this pattern to be released so I create my own works of art.
Thank you!!
I love this hat and would love to have the pattern to make a few for my grandchildren.
Because it actually snowed where it rarely does here where I live in Texas!
love, love, love this hat!!! These could be made (omitting the pompom) in subdued browns, greens or even camo yarn to send to our military stationed in Afghanastan!! Add a nice matching scarf and the men and women serving our country would be warm!! What better reason for making the pattern free???
si puo avere la spiegazione
I love them both! Leaning more love towards the green/white one, however 🙂 You and your talent always amaze me <3
I love how you used two colors, I would love to learn how to do this, Please share it for free!
Please make this pattern available for us newbies. I crotched when I was in my teens. Now I have more time but not near as much money to buy yarn and patterns. Since getting yarn free is out, free patterns are the next best thing.
this adorable hat needs to be free so that we can make sure all of America are wearing your hat. this way all of us who make hats to donate can make this great looking one
I love both the green/white and turquoise, but the turquoise is my favorite. If the pattern were FREE, I could download it now and start making ME a hat instead of having to wait until I get funds this weekend and THEN have to order it and then make it. Yes, free would be helpful.
I love your patterns and this hat looks great. If you share the pattern I would love to try making it 🙂
I have to say the only reason I think it should be free, is so we could spend money on the yarn 🙂 But I would pay for it even if it wasn’t free. I liked both color choices you have. I have made over 40 hat, mitten and scarves the past couple years and give them to the elementary school my boys attend. So that is what I would be using the pattern for
I love you gals just as much!
Very nice stitch and pattern, love it.
It’s a great hat, free or otherwise, this one is a winner!
I saw something just today on FB. Hats being left on statues, they can be left anywhere though. A little note is on it that reads, “I AM NOT LOST! If you’re stuck out in the cold, take this scarf (hat, gloves, etc) to keep warm.
Although I live in Florida, I am not far from the Ga. line. We generally have mild winters, but with this arctic blast happening…it has been in the 20’s. I am going through my stash to plant some scarves and hats tomorrow 🙂 I would love to add your design to my future “plantings”. I feel like it’s planting a little love <3
What a wonderful idea
What a neat idea!
I love love love love this hat! If it were free, broke people like myself, could actually follow an awesome pattern & make a great hat! I absolutely adore this hat!!! Please please please make this one free??
These hats are beautiful and look very warm. Your followers would take the free pattern, make up as many hats as we can and give them to others in your name. You have the talent to design your own patterns, we have the talent to crochet those patterns and then pay it forward by giving the finished product to others. The products made from your free patterns could find homes all over the world!
Love it Susan……
I think it should be free because very few extra talented designers have free patterns! Since you are so talented, free would be great. Besides, think how many of us could make some AWESOME hats for our From the Hear charities!!!!! Pretty Please!
From the Heart really is a good reason……Thanks for the compliment.
LOVE it! I can think of a million color combos…I think it should be free because Dave Ramsey will make me spend my “fun money” on it if it’s not. Think of all the movies I could see, the shoes I could buy, or the purses I could hold lovingly fill with all my crap if I didn’t have to use my “fun money” on crochet patterns. Have mercy on a poor, sad, broke crocheter 🙂
Now this is good…….
LOL thanks! 🙂
Kathy, You know that I am always on deck for a free pattern, but I wonder what you might be thinking of as a name for this bumpy baby. You know how I adore working texture into a hat, and I am looking forward to this one. Keep um coming dear.
I just love your hats, have been working in the jazzed beanie of late. Would really love to try this new one, being married to Santa, Mrs. Claus has a lot of little heads to cover. It’s very cold up here at the North Pole!!
Thanks for all you do!! Mrs. Claus
Nancy,
So very cute. Gotta keep Mrs. Claus happy….You just tell Santa how sweet I’ve been this year.
Kathy
I am homeless and living in a shelter. I love to crochet but don’t have money so free would be really awesome.
Valerie,
Bless you!
Love this hat and would be so happy to make lovely hats from it! It seems very universal – a hat for all ages – I would wear it and I know my teenage niece would, too. The color options have my brain all awhirl!
Thanks for all your creativity!
A really great looking hat with a ton of possibilities!!
I have a teenage daughter. She loves hats and beanies.
I suppose that says all 🙂
I ♥ turquoise!
Oh, please, please! It’s so cold!!! I need a hat, just… THAT!!!
Hi Kathy! This is a wonderful hat. It looks like it would work up quickly. I keep seeing it as a school spirit hat. Thus a free pattern would help defray just a tad the cost of creating spirit hats. Either way hooray for another beautiful ELK Studio pattern.
Chocolate covered cherries come to mind! Dark brown and bright red yarn, mmmmm.
I would also like to make some to donate to our local Children’s Hospital oncology or NICU units!
There are so many variations for this hat, I totaly agree!
I would love to make some of these to donate to the NICU unit at our Children’s hospital as well as their oncology unit. Oh and chocolate covered cherries come to mind! Chocolate and bright red yarn, mmmmm! 🙂
Our crochet group makes hats for the local children free at Christmas . I would be happy to make such a beautiful hat that I know kids would like to wear. The two-toned hat is my favorite .
I like the 2 toned verson too I can think of a lot of different color combinations that would be nice wonder what it would look like in an ombre I f you make it free I will make one as soon as possibel
The temperatures are freezing here…11° with a wind chill of -12° makes this hat a must have. It’s not only warm, it’s beautiful, too. I’d have to make some for friends and family so we can all stay warm. I love your things either way. Thanks for thinking of us. 🙂
I love this stitch Kathy….it’s so “hip”. My great nieces and nephews that are in middle school and high school tell me I should make all my hats/caps like this. I’m always giving them to someone that would otherwise go without in addition to some of my scarves too. I would love to be able to make this trendy hat of yours if you make it available free. Thanks again!
I love the texture of this hat and lends itself to elegance in one color and funky in two colors – depending on yarn choice. It would also be great for boys/girls or men/women. I donate a lot of hats to various charities and would definitely put this pattern in my stash!!
Cause it’s your blog birthday week! Not to mention I just moved a step further north where this cozy hat would be perfect! I wore a white hat similar to this in the snow yesterday, but color would be so much better!
I have been looking at hats for one to try my hand at, haven’t made one before. Love the texture of this one!
I would love to make this hat, it’s lovely!!
Kathy, I love it in the solid colors, and I can’t wait to see it done in the orange. Thanks for sharing your patterns.
I LOVE it!!! Such gorgeous texture. Hmm… The only good reason I can think that you should make it free is……….. Because I can’t buy anymore patterns LOL I bought too many so a beautiful free one would be great for me 😀
I am addicted to patterns! I would love to see this pattern as a free pattern, but if it ends up being a paid pattern, I will probably still get it, because IT LOOKS LIKE AN AMAZING HAT! The only reason I can think of for it to be free is that I have a move coming up soon!!! (Like 8 days…. and I have no idea where we are moving to yet. Scary as all get out knowing that you HAVE to move, but not knowing where you are going to! It would sure brighten up MY month knowing I could get this pattern for free! (Selfish reason, I know.)
Wow Tina! What a commitment, but I’m sure you can handle it! This hat is really textured and would be very warm. Thanks for your comments.
Kathy
I’m not real creative verbally but this would be a great hat to add to my collection of hats & scarves that I donate to my Oncologists office for those women that are going through chemo. I try very hard to bright a little sunshine into their lives. I feel I have to give back.
By the way I love your pattern!
Thank you for all you do, Jonee
What a generous heart Jonee! Great cause and great reason for a free pattern!
I love your patterns! I have twin granddaughters and I made them your boot cuffs and they love them (plus everyone wants to know where they got them lol) I am on S/S and have low income. So PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! make it free so I can stay Top Granny of their group!
Definitely like the two-tone. I’m feeling a creamsicle coming on: orange & white hat? or maybe Olympic fever: red & navy blue? If you offer a free pattern, maybe we could all make one in time for the Olympics!
That’s a good idea…by the way, I bought orange today…. It’s on the list.
Kathy
